The Opioid ban is where doctors are not able to prescribe patients their prescription drugs of opioids that they need. Opioids should be given to all those in need because many opioid alternatives are lest effective. Such as the alternative of therapy, and alternative medicines witch can potentially make matters worse for them. The opioid ban should not be administered due to resulting issues that could occur.
Imagine you are walking to your car from a restaurant and a homeless man limps towards you and begs for 20 dollars. It’s late and you’re all alone. You give him the money and he limps away toward an alley. You wonder, how exactly did this man end up like this? Chances are, he’s a drug addict.
Specific Purpose: At the end of my speech my audience will be persuaded not to use heroin.
I. I know most of you in here either know someone, or have heard of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Maybe you’ve had family who has gone to war, or you have been in a bad car accident a few years back.
Cocaine should stay as an illegal drug because of the effect that causes people who consume it react the way they do. Cocaine is a drug in a powder or crystal form. Powder requires corn, starch, talcum powder and/or sugar or other drugs like procaine or amphetamines. Cocaine is used by either inhaling it through the nose (snorted), and then it is absorbed through the nasal tissue, or dissolved in water and injected into the bloodstream. When people inject or smoke cocaine, it takes the drug right into the bloodstream and brain. It produces a quicker and stronger effect but has shorter-lasting high than snorting. The high from snorting cocaine may last 15 to 30 minutes, on the other hand to the high from smoking; it may last 5 to 10 minutes. Cocaine affects the body in so many ways. Cocaine causes
It's funny how many people within my age group lack common sense. Even more, if you tell people drinking alcohol and smoking weed at a young age is bad they will actually defend it with no source of proof at all. There is a reason stuff like alcohol and smoking cigarettes have a fucking age restriction, not because adults are trying to stop you from having fun it's because a 15 year olds brain does not have the tolerance for it yet. Throughout my countless visits to the hospital I have been told by many paediatricians how terrible all of this stuff actually is for you. Today, a doctor was telling me about how she did a study over a course of 4 years in San Diego with two groups of young people aged around 14. The first group were the ones who began drinking at a young age, the second, ones who did not drink until they were 18 and after doing scans results actually showed the first
Attention getter - Talking about marijuana, you might think about a very bad and addictive drug, but there are many researches showing that marijuana is less addictive than coffee (Jacques, 2013). Moreover, many people also believe that marijuana is a very lethal herb, but, in fact, marijuana has been used for 10,000 years, and there is no record of people was dead from using overdose of marijuana.
A cigarette is made up of seven thousand chemicals but one of the worst because it is addictive is nicotine. Once the nicotine is breathed in it is absorbed into the bloodstream and within twenty eight seconds it goes into the brain. There are major problems with nicotine entering into the body. First of all not only does the nicotine enter into the brain, but once it is in there it attaches to a neurotransmitter called acetylene and mimics what it is supposed to do, which is control muscle movement, breathing, and the heart rate. However what makes nicotine addictive is when it released to parts of the brain that produce pleasure. Scientists have recently discovered that nicotine raises the level of a neurotransmitter called dopamine, which is a part of the brain that produces pleasure. Another problem with nicotine getting inside the body is the fact that is actually a chemical and it is used as a bug repellent or eliminator.
You have a very profound question as to the role of physical therapists in opioid addiction. It reminded me of the very inspiring words of the APTA president, Dr. Sharon Dunn (American Physical Therapy Association [APTA], 2015). I would like to quote what she said:
When you think of drug overdose, what do you think about? You probably said Cocaine or Heroin, but what if I told you that there was another drug killing hundreds of thousands of people every year and was somehow going unnoticed. I implore you to read on if you haven’t heard of the shadow epidemic that’s taking American lives everyday. That epidemic is Xanax. Xanax is a very commonly prescribed anti-anxiety drug which became popular in the early 2000s and only continues to rise in popularity as it becomes more of a mainstream recreational drug. Since it is the 8th most prescribed drug in the United States, it can be found in the homes of millions of U.S. families, Xanax is a dangerous, addictive, and easy to obtain drug that is not to be taken
A couple fellow classmates in high school and college were always taking some kind of pills. Myself not knowing much about drugs, I thought they were prescribed. Later, I found out that they weren’t prescribed. My classmates were using them for themselves and also distributing to other students. I never spoke up about it, since I never witnessed the distribution but rumors go around. For example, one time in high school, I witness this kid put 5 white rectangular pills in his mouth, from my point of view I thought that was excessive. The next thing we know this kid is just acting totally different, but somehow he manages to keep a low profile and the teachers don’t notice. Prescription drug abuse is on the rise as we have seen on the news if you don’t live under a rock. Teens and adults have managed to get their hands on these prescriptions. People abuse prescription drugs because they think they will have a better time
You’re sitting in your hospital room, waiting for answers. You are holding your daughter in your arms. Her sickly pale face turns and looks at you. She struggles to recognize you and tries to make out words. Her speech is slurred and you can’t understand a word she is saying. You look into her dying eyes and wonder if this will be the last time you will ever see them. You tried everything, from blood transplants to therapy. Nothing seems to be helping, but there is one more option: cannabis oil. You’re very reluctant to try this, yet what else can you do? The cannabis oil helps her right away. The seizures and the pain stop almost immediately. Medical marijuana can save lives, and over 61% of the United States agrees (Loria). We don’t know
When driving a vehicle, thinking about the effects it will have on others might be the last thing on a person 's mind. Getting into an accident can be horrific, especially if the cause is drunk driving. Drunk drivers put lives at risk, as they can swerve uncontrollably and crash into innocent bystanders or other drivers. Automobile accidents occur daily, whether it is from a distracted driver, drunk driver or a sudden crash. However, drunk driving accidents and deaths related to them are totally preventable. Once drunk driving can come to an end, more people will feel safer to drive everyday.
Cocaine is an extremely addictive and poisonous drug and is a central nervous system stimulant (Miller-Keane). This stimulant drug is derived from the coca plant, and when used as a
Smoking has been a long time habit round the world. However, in the past, smoking cigarette was very popular and known to be a cool recreational drug, and was widely accepted by the community across the world. Today smoking has been less widely accepted and more restricted because of the many health risks that are linked to smoking cigarette. These days, people are well educated and more knowledgeable about the health risks of smoking. Therefore, smoking popularity has been in sharp a decline in the past decade. Smoking cigarette is more than just an addiction; it is one of highest cause of death in the world than any other causes.
