Low-fat Foods- What You Need to Know
For years, low-fat foods have been one of the ‘in things or hottest trends” in the world of nutrition, as many dieticians and nutritionists claim that cutting back on dietary fats lead to significant weight loss. Moreover, another factor that adds to its popularity, are the growing evidences of the countless health benefits it can offer like managing cholesterol levels, maintaining a healthy heart and slowing down the onset of chronic illnesses such as cancer and diabetes.
To start do that, planning healthy food choices matters a lot. Why? Since high-calorie foods are everywhere, it is important to take the time to plan ahead to make sure you have healthy options available. Among them, is opting for low-fat foods. Saturated fats. This is mainly found in animal foods such as milk, cheese, and meat. But a few plant foods are also high in saturated fats such as coconut, coconut oil, palm oil, and palm kernel oil. Studies show that intake of saturated fats raises total blood cholesterol levels and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels, which can increase both the occurence of cardiovascular disease and risk of type 2 diabetes. b. Trans fat. This type of fat is made by heating liquid vegetable oils in a process called partial hydrogenation. By oing so, partially hydrogenated oils can withstand repeated heating without breaking down, making them ideal for frying fast foods, baked goods, and processed snack foods and margarine. As a result, they become a mainstay in restaurants and in food industry. Research studies show that these partially hydrogenated trans fats pose great health dangers such as the increase of bad cholesterol levels (LDL), and reduce good cholesterol levels (HDL) which can all attribute to the risk of cardiovascular
My intake of fats is low. My intake was 47 grams and the recommended was 86.28 grams. I could eat a little bit more of fats in my diet. After looking in the book I see the benefits of fats, whereas I thought they were all bad. Ch 6: Proteins 18.

Shown through figure 1 is how applying the hydrogenation process to food changes the chemical structure of the food which applies the trans fats.
The increase in fat can cause an increase in Cholesterol which is a direct cause of Heart Diseases and also can increase a persons chance of having a stroke. Today life is on the fast track. People are always on the go and don’t have time to properly take care of themselves or their families. For most Americans, fast food and junk food are ready to grab for a snack or a quick dinner. They don’t slow down to think about how the foods they are eating effect their long term health. Fewer and fewer families take the time to prepare a nutritious meal and are passing down bad habits to their children.
Eating meat is beneficial to humanity, because they provide nourishment that cannot be obtained from other sources. Without the support of animals, humans lack a distinctive diet, that is essential to their well-being. However, since animals are so important to the diet, they deserve great care and respect as well. Humans were always hunters and gathers. The major question is, Should the government be able to control what people buy or do not buy with food stamps? As a chairperson of the United States Department of Agriculture exploratory committee, we would like to present our information.
Cafeteria food in schools is made to be healthy for students, but is it really healthy for students if they think it is foul and do not want to eat it? Should schools change the healthy foods to foods that students would actually want to eat? School food’s job is to be healthy and tasty to get the students through their day, but sadly school lunches tend to miss the mark on both accounts. Public schools rely on money from the government to supply food to their students, but due to several cutbacks the thing served in the cafeteria is hardly food at all.
