Essay On Urban Climate

1190 Words5 Pages

More than half of the human population lives in urban areas (Martine and Marshall, 2007) and by 2020 almost 80% of Europeans will live in urban areas. The urban population growth rate is more rapid in developing countries, so urban climate is an important issue for the people living in the cities.. It is a fact that urban climate is the dominant environment issue for most of humanity. Recent studies have shown suggested that global climate change will have a significant impact on both local weather and urban air quality [1, 2, 3, 4]. Recently, climate modeling efforts have shifted their focus from analyzing mean values of climate variables (e.g., temperature and precipitation) to extreme values, variability, and shifts in the frequency of climate patterns. Scientist try to understand the interaction of the climate change with the urban areas to offer valuable information to consider adaptation and mitigation strategies [5]. Climate change is emerging as an important ingredient of air quality and the link between the two issues will have a significant impact on urban air quality in the future. Weather and climate play a significant role in people's …show more content…

With the strong dependence on localized flow patterns, air quality models benefit from the higher-resolution wind and temperature produced by a local diagnostic model (CALMET). The results of these studies suggest that climate will have important effect on urban meteorology and air pollution over the next several decades. The science of coupling global climate models, regional models and local weather together with air quality models is still at a young state. There are important questions to solve such as which climate metrics and statistics are most relevant to air quality and how sensitive are the simulation results to downscaling
