• The Alien and Sedition Acts helped our country by removing people who may be harmful to the development of our country. They could also be working against us giving information about what’s going on in our country to other countries potentially endangering us. However, it may have also harmed our country economically. Sending them back may leave us with even less money than we already don’t

There will always be a debate on whether one law or another is giving Justice to America. However, it’s getting to the point where the United states needs to make a change in the immigration department. We owe it to Americans to give loyalty to tax payers and citizens. Right now America is essentially encouraging immigrants to evade taxes, as well as, the companies they are
In the summer of 1798, Congress decided to pass the Alien and Sedition Acts, which were four bills that limited the rights of foreigners who lived in the United States. The first act declared that the president could deport, or hold captive, those living in the United States if the states were at war with the home country of the immigrant; this was known as the Alien Enemies Law. This takes away the person's right to freedom because they were judged on the state of their country. Much like the first act, the second act allowed the president to “expel” an immigrant, however Congress limited this expulsion to two years maximum; this act was beyond unfair to the people who could be deported because it did not give them the right to defend themselves
President Jefferson is currently making attempts to solve the problem. His goal is to avoid any way with Britain and France. Seven months ago, Jefferson announced the Embargo Act. From then on, all trade with foreign countries is banned. No ships will leave or have left American waters.
The United States has had major changes since its establishment. This country has been through a lot of diversity and plenty of ups and downs in order to get to where we are now. We’ve seen a lot of contributions from different people and events that had advantages and disadvantages to come with. For example, our first president George Washington who played a key role in the early development of this country along with the Louisiana Purchase that helped the country double in size, or whether it was negative like the XYZ Affair and the Alien and Sedition acts that caused uproar and outrage to people. Altogether these events brought us what we have today.
Congress showed political divide during John Adams term in office because, during his term, Congress made the Alien and Sedition Acts that were meant to help immigrant become citizens with right to vote within 5 to 14 years, and the Sedition Act was made to stop rebellion against the government, but Republicans felt like their party was being attacked due to most immigrants voting for Republicans and the Sedition Act was just punishing Republican newspaper editors who insulted Adams. According to History Alive, "Since most immigrants voted Republican, Jefferson saw this law as an attack on his party...and the Sedition Act was used to punish Republican newspaper editors who delighted in insulting Adams" (Hart-159). This quote reveals that there
By the way, did anyone ever tell you that the Constitution is unconstitutional? Yep, the whole thing. Or at least its ratification was illegal. This is not a joke, except to the degree that it is.

The Constitution is an essential document to not only the American judiciary system, but to American society as well. Though the document’s intended purpose is to protect the people, it has caused much controversy among them. The controversy arises in the argument of how the people should be interpreting the text of the Constitution. Originalists argue the text is meant to be interpreted in the literal sense, instrumentalists oppose this view arguing that the text of the Constitution is meant to be interpreted in relevance to today (adapted to modern times). This argument is discussed by Lawrence B. Solum in parts one and two of, “The Supreme Court in Bondage: Constitutional Stare Decisis, Legal Formalism, and the Future of Unenumerated Rights”.
Our class should study amendment number eight. The Eighth Amendment to the United States Constitution states, “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.” This amendment prohibits the federal government from imposing unduly harsh penalties on criminal defendants, either as the price for obtaining pretrial release or as punishment for crime after conviction. (Constitutioncenter.org) states that, "The Cruel and Unusual Punishments Clause clearly prohibits cruel methods of punishment. " This means that if the federal government tried to bring back the rack, or thumbscrews, or gibbets as types of punishment, such efforts would violate the Eighth Amendment This amendment still
Also, in 1882 the Chinese Exclusion Act was passed and prohibited the immigration of the Chinese for 10 years and denied naturalization to those in the US already. This act directly goes against what Washington said, by denying them the right and privilege to come to America and seek citizenship that is given other immigrant groups. In addition, the Africans that were brought over as slaves were denied those rights and privileges given to others from the start. Many were denied there basic right of freedom, since they were sold into slavery and forced to work as labors. They were not granted their freedom until the passing of the 13th and 14th Amendments (1865, 1868) that ended slavery and gave African-Americans citizenship.
The founding fathers idea for a great government was to distribute powers into branches that can also be balance and check by each other, which will also help them make the best decisions for their people. About two years ago, Obama put into place an executive action which protected about four million illegal immigrants from deportation. Since we were not able to deport all eleven million immigrants the Obama administration chose to help those that deserved to be here. They decided that the people that fell into that category were living in United States for several years, had not committed crimes and who have families here to take care of. It didn’t give anyone official legal status nor put them on the path to citizenship, because only congress can do that.
