In his essay, “Should Everybody Write?”, Dennis Baron focuses on the expansion of information due to the advancement of technology and the vast amount of unchecked writing available on the internet. Baron also goes into depth about the origins of writing and the impact it has had on readers, authors, and researchers. After he presents the origins and progression of writing, Baron answers the question of, should everybody write? In early era’s, according to Baron, “… in the 17th century England, a period known for the flowering of English letters, where even kings and queens composed poetry and the brand-new Royal Society promoted science writing, literacy in London remained a mere 10% for men, a shocking 1% for women” (845).
Writing encourages thought. In some cases the essays would require them to drive over to the beach in order for Jay to capture the whole picture. By taking the time to put pen to paper, it can create hundreds of ideas and allows the writer to truly grasp the concept in which they are writing about. As an athlete, I have to really visualize something to accomplish it whether it be for another practice or tournament, I take the time to write down little details my coach may tell me. By doing so, I am allowing myself to take in, remember, visualize and then act upon what is it
Digital technology has completely changed the world for the good and the bad. The disadvantage that technology has brought and will bring in the future is that people will rely on it too much. Books are becoming non-existent, people are not communicating face to face, we are no longer using paper and pencils, and social media is taking over the world. However, it is up to the adults to monitor and limit the use of computers, T.V., mobile phones and video games. The advantages to technology is important dealing with education because it can promote new and fun ways someone to learn and easier access to researching
What does writing mean to me? Writing means getting people engaged in your piece. It means people wanting to keep reading what you wrote. The biggest thing about writing to me is expressing your thoughts and letting your mind go. Using good word choice and having a strong voice in the writing is something that makes it good.
Writing is a skill that is necessary for life. Writing gives you the ability to express yourself in ways that talking could not. From a young age, I loved to write. Writing acted as a scapegoat to me. It allowed me to vanish from reality.
Amy Goldwasser claims reading and writing online to be aesthetically and intellectually equivalent to the more traditional methods, in her persuasive essay, “What’s the matter with kids today?”. She is absolutely correct. Reading and writing online volutarily shows the same quantity as previous nonelectronic modes, uses the same thought process and problem solving, and reveals a less of importance for knowledge of fun facts in order to concentrate on analyzation. When compared to generations prior, this next generation is more inclined to write about themselves without pressure from others. They share key moments of their lives and display them over social media.
Lunsford, she discusses the fact that over the years writing has changed dramatically. There is the idea of “new literacies” which are “more participatory, collaborative, and distributed” (Lunsford 49). Literacy is no longer just about the author; rather there are many different aspects about society as a whole go into literacy today. Millennials are being seen as having a “cyberspatial-postindustrial- mindset” (Lunsford 49). This mindset is defined as having a “focus on collectives as the unit of production, competence, intelligence” (Lunsford 49).
Written works tells us about our past, present, and future. Literature painted the image of the past of our ancestors, how they lived and what they’ve done. Literature teaches us about ourselves, and the universe surrounding us in the present. Literature predicts the upcoming events and gives us wings to fly into the unknown future. These are the powers written words can give the writer and provide the
It’s spring now and the winter was terrible let me tell you. There were 10 people dying every day from starvation or freezing to death or disease it was terrible. When we were marching there from the last battle we heard that there was going to be food there for 8 months turns out there was only food for 8 days. General Edwin and a bunch of other soldiers and commanders asked if they could leave and George had to let them go he just asked them if they would come back in the Spring ready to go. Hundreds of soldiers deserted valley Forge and went back home to their families. George was the only general that never slept he always was helping us out we were all sick and cold and he did everything he could have. George kept calling in supplies
what is it that makes us feel the need to escape? Today was a totally different day; for the first time the sky wasn't pitch black covered with smoke everywhere, and there was no noise coming from the fighter jets, or guns, there were people repairing the broken up houses and filling up the trenches that were once considered useless to fix. For the first time in a very long time old Jenking's bar was open, and there was noise of partying and laughter coming from there. "This could mean only one thing; the war was finally over" The war that took away so many lives, the war that separated people living on the same grounds with just a painted white boundary was finally over. "This meant I could finally cross that line and I could explore
December 2nd, 1944 - Belgium Forest 'The Battle of the Bulge ' I awoke to the deafening sound of gun fire in the distance, "Just another day," I said, I looked around to watch if anyone was there. " Mornin ' sunshine" said the Sergeant, "You 're on watch duty today, hope you don 't plan on going anywhere," He joked. I watched as the Sergeant began to wake the rest of the company. I quickly hurried, trying to find my gear, I grabbed my gun and rushed out of the fox hole. "Hey Sarge," I said, "wheres the watch tower you found yesterday?"
Internet is changing our lifestyle which includes work, producing and consuming. The creative potential release by digital technologies is also boosting questions about rules and ethics, as well as social benefits
The technology has pros and cons. The effect of technology on people could be shown in several ways. However, the question that is to be addressed here is whether people’s dependence on technology has affected creativity and communication or not ? I absolutely agree that technology has affected people’s creativity and communication.
Creativity can be defined as the willingness to be courageous, adventurous, daring and to try new things. Creative people take risks and produce some of the best ideas. When designing and making, creative work is likely to bring about original knowledge which will incur risk taking. Innovation and risk taking are skills that are close together, everyone that knows it have to deal with creating something new everyday. Being creative does not only involve the study of art, which is how it has been perceived through the years.
