1. I think that consulting with other professional staff members is the most important because that is kind of self-explanatory with in the name, Correctional counselor. It talks about developing treatment plans that require special emphasis and change to increase the possibility of reaching a desired level of adjustment and that is the biggest thing in correctional counseling, helping the patient change for the better. I also think that the ability to prepare comprehensive evaluations is the most important competencies needed because you might know all their needs to know about correctional counseling but if you can’t find a good way to prepare the evaluation then why does any of the practice, and knowledge matter.
2. Second most important thing would be the interviews of the residents because you can’t really be a successful correctional counselor unless you get all of their information on file. The second most important competence needed would be to have good interviewing techniques and procedures because if you don’t have good technique you will lose the resident interest and they may think that you are not helping them at all.

Lastly on the work examples would have to be the participation in the training and development of undergraduate and graduate students from schools because that’s not really focusing on you job as a counselor helping people better themselves and there are many correctional counselors out there that can help train them. The seventh most important competence would be that you take high initiative and pride in what you do because if you show high initiative in what you do then your residents will more than likely keep coming back and they will show high initiative on changing their behavior, and it keeps a positive
The role of correctional officers are to maintain security and control within the penitentiary and the immediate surrounding perimeter to ensure safety of the public and inmates. The secondary role of correctional officers are to provide rehabilitative means to the prisoners often in the form of job skills and anger management. Along with rehabilitative treatment, correctional officers are to ensure that prisoners, particularly those placed in the level two housing unit, are prepared for reintegration into society upon
For example the Academy teaches the importance of not conversing with the inmates, but a vital way to get the inmates to follow the rules one must build some sort of relationship with them. While some CO’s treated the inmates like friends and others treated the same inmates like dirt, Conover found an in between, befriending them and hating them. He gained some sort of trust but not much at all so that he wasn’t taken advantage of. He was professional but still had some sort of humanity. This is what I would do when it came to contact and inmate relationship.

Does it make sense to lock up 2.4 million people on any given day, giving the U.S the highest incarceration rate in the world. More people are going to jail, this implies that people are taken to prison everyday for many facilities and many go for no reason. People go to jail and get treated the worst way as possible. This is a reason why the prison system needs to be changed. Inmates need to be treated better.
Per the website Study.com (n.d.), Juvenile Probation Officers’ primary job duties are supervising youth who have been in the juvenile justice system. Typically, these juvenile offenders have recently been released from juvenile detention and have returned to live with their families. The purpose of a Juvenile Probation Officer is to prevent the juvenile from reoffending. To prevent reoffending the Juvenile Probation Officer regularly meets with the juvenile and their families to ensure the juvenile is following the guidelines of the courts ("Juvenile Probation Officers | Job Description and Duties," n.d.).
The career I have chosen has to do with criminal justice. Criminal justice is something that 's always seemed to grab my attention. It 's something I feel I was born to be interested in. I really enjoy helping others in any way so I figured why not pursue a career as a probation officer. Not only will I be helping others, but I will be preventing an offender from repeating the same mistake.
America is a nation freeing its self from the shackles of the past . This is evident during the mid 19th century with reform movements happening in the Temperance, Education, Prison, women’s rights, and anti-slavery. Provide training to all prison staff on mental health issues. Training should reinforce staff understanding of mental disorders, raise awareness on human rights, challenge stigmatizing attitudes and encourage mental health promotion for guards and inmates. In addition, prison health workers need more specialized skills to identify and manage the prisoners’ mental health. According to HM Prison Probation & Service (2018), prison staff ‘keep those sentenced to prison in custody, helping them lead law-abiding and useful lives, both while they are in prison and after they are released.’ It believes that prison staff will play a huge part in the life of an offender, helping them to learn and develop new skills (HM Prison Probation & Service,
Each individual must accept and work towards the institutions goal of care and custody of inmates, not holding to bad habits and workarounds of “seasoned” staff which create confusion and division among staff and administration, therefore causing chaos and confusion among staff and inmates. Likewise, Administration must be willing to “step forth when colleagues are out of line” (Bartollas, 2013). Although there are other areas which the needs of professionalism in corrections need to be addressed, these are the key factors in my opinion which if change is brought about, would address the issue of professionalism as a

Origin and History of the Criminal Justice System The Criminal justice system is a system that was made to control crime and make punishments to whoever break a law or rule. Examining Problems and Their Solutions in The Parole System The United States of America contains the third largest population in the world, which contradicts the fact that the United States has the largest prison population in the world (Aliprandini, and Finley). The fact that their prison population is so large alludes to the reason they would have a strong parole system. Due to contrary belief, this is not the case.
From the ideas and techniques that Mrs. Perez used, I realized how these interviews could be helpful if utilized and applied in the proper way. To me, this assignment was the best and it helped me further my development and growth as a future mental health counselor. The most interesting and educative aspect of this interview was how Mrs. Perez applied most of the counseling techniques, such motivational stage that we have been taught in class. Aspects such as paraphrasing the words of your clients, tone, and facial expressions are critical in a counseling session and students always overlook these techniques. The way Mrs. Perez employed according to her explanation was excellent and her ideas justified the importance of such points in any counseling session.
