Every country on earth has a different set of values and beliefs that influences the daily life of the citizens as well as the culture of the country. This also applies to the USA whose values and beliefs have made them renowned across the entire world and attracted millions of immigrants with the dream of a better standard of living. Probably the most well-known value is individual freedom. This value means that every American has the freedom to control their own destiny without influence from an outside authority. This value emerged in 1776 when the USA declared their independence from the British colonists. The new nation limited the power of the church, outlawed titles of nobility to be certain an aristocratic society didn’t develop, and most importantly they gave the power to the people by establishing a democratic state. This resulted in …show more content…
They often live in the same geographical area or meet over the internet in different communication platforms depending on whether it’s an online-community or a location-based community. In correlation to which responsibilities the individuals in a community have to each other, I firstly believe that the people in a community must obey and respect the laws of the community since if people didn’t obey the laws people won’t trust each other. Therefore, I believe the people in a community must treat others like they’d like to be treated in order for the community to work as good as possible, which includes obeying the laws. Secondly, I believe they have a responsibility, to participate in the community, by working, since you need to give something to the community in order for you to obtain the advantages of the community, otherwise there’ll be an unfair balance between the community and the individual which I think is disrespectful towards the community and the members of it, since you indicate that you are utilizing the
The Route to Freedom The American culture has been dominated by the idea of freedom and liberty. America is considered the land of free where people can practice their own religions, traditions, and cultures, knowing that there is no unjust treatment or oppression towards people. Fundamentally, America’s freedom began with the hard work of the Continental Congress when The Declaration of Independence was crafted by Thomas Jefferson. Nevertheless, The Declaration of Independence did not grant liberty to all citizens and that is why Elizabeth Cady Stanton crafted the Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions in order to give rights to women.
Throughout the annals of American history, the advocation for freedom, and the absorption of ideals such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness have been at the forefront of the American belief. These beliefs were implemented in 1776 through the Declaration of Independence. This document was ratified by recalcitrant Americans who would not tolerate subjection to tyrannical rule. The American people hoped this document would seal their fate in relation to Europe, and prove to them, and frankly the entire world, that they were a separate, sufficient nation. But as the years unfolded, the realization that America would continue to be considered an inferior nation arose.
America is uniquely the first country to be founded on human principles, such as liberty, consent of the governed, and self-determination. The first Principles include the rule of law, unalienable rights, equality, social contract, limited government, and the right to revolution when the government infringes another first principle.
Our founding fathers based our nation upon certain core values. These values prompted men to take up arms to not obtain but defend them as well requiring some to make the ultimate sacrifice. These core values are liberty, individualism, equality and self-government. The pilgrims, the earliest settlers, came to this continent to pursue religious liberty since they were persecuted by government officials.
One of the events that helped to develop this happened in the House of Burgess. During that time The fourth Ideal is Rights which helps to give the people in the United States the respect and ability to do what they want within those rights that are given to us. The original Colonists were denied a lot of the rights that we have today and they had to work hard to obtain those rights. They had to work hard and protest until Great Britian gave in and lifted their laws one law at a time. It has taken a long time to get all of the rights that we have today.
The values that are the most important to individualism are rule of law, and self interest. Though I am still growing in my values and beliefs as a male citizen in Canada I believe that rule of law is the most important to individualism because everyone is equal in the eyes of the law. Way back a long time ago people were ranked based on who their parents were. A good example of that would be the feudal system or the term we would call feudalism. The feudal system is a ranking system that has the King/Queen on the top and the peasants at the bottom.

It defines their identity and culture that holds the people together. Within a vast society like the American society, many social identity will be question if they do not conform to the norms. In any society, people will easily conform to follow norms that fit the views of the society
Individuals lay the foundation of America. The Founding Fathers of this unique nation broke their allegiance with Great Britain to create an improved governing body. They desired an individual-centered authority as opposed to Britain’s monarchy, which ruled with tyranny. These Founding Fathers experienced a neglectful democratic monarchy that cared little about the ethical treatment of its people. The domineering actions of Britain challenged these historic individuals to form a new cultural identity.
America’s society has some distinctive characteristics that separate it from that of the rest of the world. Although diverse, the American society is unified in the number of traits that they all share. All American citizens value their individuality as well as their equality. Americans are not afraid to voice their opinions or to oppose something that they disagree with. If there is something that is not right, Americans will not hesitate to work towards positive change of that cause.
Freedom Anyone in the world with an occasional source of internet has no choice but to see the seemingly outrageous news stories, posted weekly on events in the US. American’s have made their distrust in the government more than obvious, which in many cases, the government has provoked. The largest debate in the states today is the with the concept of freedom and where the lines are drawn between social security, equality, and one’s rights. Freedom is and always has been heavily emphasized in the development of the 50 states. It’s brought peace and war both figuratively and literally.
The two important values that I have learnt are the independence and the respect. I learnt these two values since my childhood. One of the values is the independence. Independence means that you can support yourself without owning or depending on yourself concerned with livelihood or studying. You can make decision of your life without being controlled by the others.
I believe that every family has their own roots, essence, uniqueness, beliefs and thoughts, some families have both parents, some just the mother, just the father, two mothers or two fathers, they might have an only child or two, or maybe 5 or even 10, therefore, those children start learning all these things from their family and surroundings, they ask questions, they imitate each other’s actions and are constantly learning and trying to catch as much information and experiences as possible. Children are growing fast, their parents are their role models, they learn mostly from them; parents have the tremendous job of forming good citizens that provide to society, healthy and happy beings that keep growing as humans in every stage of their
Joseph Campbell once said, “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself”. Beowulf is a hero who helped Hrothgar and Hrothgar’s towns people by defeating Grendel and Grendel’s mother. Harry Potter is a hero when he protects his friends and Hogwarts. Beowulf and Harry Potter have similarities and differences so their values teach the reader about society. Having values is important in our society for many reasons.
