Kitab al-Kharaj is Abu Yusuf’s most famous book and it is also a classic text on fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) which is the book that discussed a subject thoroughly and carefully about the taxation and fiscal problems of the state. Kitab al-Kharaj is written by Abu Yusuf at the request of the Abbasid Caliph, Harun al-Rashid. Harun al-Rashid request Abu Yusuf to write this book because he was the most famous student of Imam Abu Hanifah who helped spread the influence of the Hanafi School of Islamic law through his writing and the government positions that he held.

Firstly, al-Kharaj is a tax on the land that was originally imposed on the territories that had been conquered by the Muslims through the war. This tax policy regarding the suggestion that had been made by the AbuYusuf had followed the policies during the reign of Caliph Umar bin al-Khattab. When the Muslims managed to seize the land from the disbelievers, the land is not been distributed to the Muslims but they remain the owner of its land, but the owner need to pay the al-Kharaj in a certain of amount to the Baitul Mal. But later it also was imposed on the Muslims as well. Next is al-Usyur are plurals to the word of Usyr which means a tenth or 10 percent. It also means a 5 percent (harvests of irrigated land) or 10 percent (harvest from rain-watered land) tax on the agriculture produce. Here, Abu Yusuf refers to the level of the agricultural charity and customs that apply to the Muslim traders and non-Muslims across the region of the Daulah Islamiyah. In agriculture there are problems due to the following conditions: if the soil using the irrigation technique were then Nisf Zakat al-Usyr (5 percent) whereas if the irrigation management is using rainwater is then Zakat al-Usyr or 10 percent. In the history, the customs of the Muslim, Dhimmi and Harbi traders are difference which are Muslim traders will be charged Rub’ul Usyr (2.5 percent), Dhimmi traders will be charged Nisf al-Usyr and Harbi traders will be charged Usyr (10 percent). This is a tax on the merchandise that had been imported from the states that taxed the Muslims, Dhimmis and also Harbis and also their products. Other source of the national income is Jizyah. Jizyah is a per head tax that need to pay by the non-Muslims residents who live and be protected by the Islamic state which are categorized as dhimmi. Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) set the election towards his
I believe the bail conditions that Omar Khadr received were fair conditions, but the Canadian government should issue and apology to Omar Khadr for contributing to the violation of his rights. Although I believe that Omar Khadr was guilty of the 5 war crime charges against him because of his confession, he should have had a fair trial regarding his crimes. One of the charges was for the murder of Christopher Speer, a U.S. soldier, during the battle in Afghanistan. In an interview with the National Post, Khadr explained the situation and how he felt before throwing the grenade. “I was thinking, ‘What should I do…?’

He also demanded for taxes and although some people might see this specific demand as unfair, I beg to differ as Muslims are enforced to pay much more tax on charity than non muslims who have to pay jizya as a sign of peace. Similarly, the Ottoman Empire also enforced jizya and also had much religious tolerance. They took over much of Europe and thus the main religions in it were mostly Christianity and Judaism. Many Christians actually rathered the Ottoman rule as the taxes were lighter and the oppression was much less than Christian rulers. Christians and Jews were peacefully given opportunities and were able to worship and practice their own
Muslims have been know for making advancements in religion as well as its many practices. Though, even in light of this fact Muslims are often perceived as lacking in impact. In particular they were never thought to make impacts in technology or science, etc. This is due to the fact that Muslim accomplishments are always overlooked and aren't given credit. Especially so in favor of the scandalous, extremist activities wrongly attributed to Muslims.
The other weavers then took the culprit to (an Islamic) court for his wrongs, arguing that keeping all of the yarn to oneself is against old customs. The intention behind writing this document was to target other Muslims and show them an example of how not to engage in mercantilism; It’s giving an example of an unhonest man who took advantage of the limited supply for himself. These connections formed through the friendly attitudes of merchants made it easy for Islamic ideologies to be adopted by big empires such as he Mongolian Empire (as their honesty and friendliness was a favorable quality that the Mongolian leaders would want in their empire), and even
The Lost Boys of Sudan is a very interesting film. I thought it was very well documented and did an excellent job at portraying the life of a group of boys moving to America from Sudan. It effectively portrayed the growth of the boys as the spent more time in the foreign land. Although I felt that the entire film was very thought-provoking, the parts that had me thinking the most were the scene when Peter said “I cannot say America is good, or America is bad,” “I thought I came to America so I can gain something, but we don’t get it.
Rashid Ahmed Guided Reflection Questions Opening Questions How did the simulated experience of Rashid Ahmed’s case make you feel? What makes a character ‘bad’ and criminal? A criminal is a person who is a wrongdoer in which the outcome benefits solely for himself. A ‘bad’ character is a person who is unwelcoming and unpleasant. Knowing this, Abul Khaizuran from ‘Men in the Sun’ by Ghassan Kanafani, does not identify with such characteristics. Keeping in mind that the novella’s setting is taken place a few years after the all-out attack on Palestine and they are going from Basra to Kuwait and during the corrupted society of Palestinians, Abul Khaizuran puts his life on the line to help Abu Qais, Assad and Marwan by smuggling them into Kuwait.

Mahfouz, as well as Said, shared a direct contact with the Arabian lifestyle because they grow up in that society. Mahfouz’s novel depicts the real world with the touches of the supernatural and mystic, but as a form of evil in the world not as exotic and uncivilized as the Europeans did. Mahfouz’s Arabian Nights and Days “takes new depths and insights as it picks up from where the ancient story ends” (Fayez 229). Mahfouz uses the Arabian Nights tales and Shahryar’s and Scheherazade’s society to portray the contemporary social and political issues of his people. Mahfouz aims to show various thematic concerns of the people of the East than the early versions left out.
A. PREAMBLE The terrorist attack on September 11, 2001 has sparked intense curiosity and interest in the world especially the West to learn and investigate the religion of Islam. The Muslim people are portrayed as violent and barbaric, and Islam as oppressive and antithesis to human rights values. Thus, escalation of public opinion about Islam has encouraged debates and forums, and also stirred demonstrations and movements which have compelled the Muslims to speak out their minds and interpret and recast their texts viz. Quran and Sunnah of prophet Mohammad and even question and challenge the prevailing culture and practices, and domineering structures.
The in the text it says, ¨And I tell myself, it all happened by the will of God; there is no God but God¨ (Al-Alajir ). Al-Alajir believes that God is in control of everything. She believes that everything happens because God wants it to happens, and that everything happens for a reason. Al-Alajir shows that people do not have any control in their lives. Everyone has a destiny that has been set by God, and everything that leads up to that fate is done by the power of God.

The book entitled “Islam the Misunderstood Religion” written by Muhammed Qutb is a book talks about how the world, mostly the non Muslim communities, see Islam from their perspectives. This book means to clarify those wrong perspectives. The book can be read both by Muslim and non Muslim. According to my understanding, this book is divided into two main topics; Islam and ideologies, and Islam and applications. Islam and ideologies parts talk about how people correlate Islam with feudalism, capitalism, idealism and communism.
