Social media has become the dominant means of communication for the past few years. Social media is reintepreting of what we do from the way we connect with our friends and family and how business and journalism function. Hundreds of millions of people all over the world use social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn (Florida, R. , 2010). Facebook was started by Mark Zuckerberg in February 2004 at Harvard University and a new networking generation began. 2.2 Targeted advertising.
According to Deloitte, targeted advertising based on characteristics of facebook's audience grant marketers to send messages at scale to their customers which can in turn increase return on advertising. Cost effectiveness of advertising for business is derived from the ability to target the relevant audience. Facebook's self- service auction-based ad tools allows marketers of all size create campaign at scale and it lowers the barrier to advertising and allow companies that were not able to advertise in traditional channels take full advantage of promoting ther products and services.
2.3 Referrals
Business may also benefit when people share links to their website with their friends or family which can have significant effects on sales and also fundraising. For example, Facebook helped spread awareness about the "ice bucket challenge" initiative that raised $100 million in donation to fund research for the cure of the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) (Franzen, C., 2015)
