For our field assignment, we visited the PVR multiplex in Forum Mall, Koramangala. The movie we watched was Munthirivallikal Thalirkumbol- a malayalam movie. In this report I will be covering three main aspects related to the arrangement of a movie theatre, spatiality, advertisement and crowd.

The multiplex we visited was secluded from the other parts of the shopping mall. This gives the theatre a kind of exclusive attention. One can say that the multiplex is isolated or disconnected from the rest of the mall. It is located on the top floor of the shopping mall. This seems to be a very important commercialization tactic because one has to go through all other floors in order to reach the multiplex, to watch the movie. By such a move, the mall management can assume that at least few people will buy other things on the way to the movie theatre.

Comparing to a single screen conventional theatre, the ticket price in multiplexes are priced very high. Everyone stood up for the national them though nobody was there to check. Only a few number of people sang along with the anthem. During the introductory scene of the superstar, the crowd clapped passively. This is something different from what we expect in a conventional single screen where whistling and howling are quiet usual. Crowd mostly consisted of families and students. There seemed to be an equal number of men and women, people across all age groups were part of the audience. Many people bought pop-corn, coffee and coke, both at the beginning and during the interval. This again supports the claim that the crowd consisted of people who could buy food articles kept at the same price as that of the movie ticket. People were willing to pay for the
