My Career Path

I was always unsure of my career path growing up. It felt as one day I wanted to be a teacher but the next day I changed my mind. Through high school, I was determined to find the right fit for me. I enrolled in a medical pathway course, which allowed students to learn about different health professions, as well as allowed the students to shadow their last two years of high school. I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in the health field, but I struggled to find a career that suited my interested. I volunteered at the Valley Baptist Hospital, was part of different medical internships, joined HOSA and other health clubs to help me find what I wanted to pursue in the future. During the summer, I worked a minimum wage job restlessly to be able to save enough money to pay for one or two college courses. It became a cycle I worked all through the fall semester to again only be able to afford to pay for one or two classes for the spring. I was frustrated because I felt that I would never be able to reach my goals. It was then when I enrolled at Texas State Technical College to earn a dental assistant certificate. As a pre-dental student at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley I still face adversity, I still do not have the luxury to be only a student yet I have excelled as a student, and leader. I have maintained a 3.57 GPA while working a 40-hour job and being concurrently enrolled in 15+ credit hours. At the same time, I have joined multiple clubs and organizations to better my understanding of many diverse topics. I am part of various organizations, such which include the Operation Smile, Pre-dental society, Habitat for Humanity, American association of women in STEM and the American Red Cross. I have held leadership positions in these organizations such as publicist of the German club, and vice president of golden key international honor society, yet I have also been able to follow and contribute as a member. I have contributed over 250 community service hours to organizations and events such as the Valley Baptist Medical Center, Tip-O-Tex Little Miss Kickball, the Boys and Girls Club, and Friendship of Women, to name a few.
