My endeavors to acquire knowledge of how to read, write and communicate in English have been a significant challenge in my life. It has been seventeen years that I have learned English. My English learning from primary to secondary school are all teacher-centered approach. Before enrolled into CFS, I never get to experience to work in a group for English class. I had my preschool education in a Montessori school in Bangi. I remember learning basic phrases for greeting, naming objects and singing during English classes when I was in the kindergarten. Usually, we will have our class outdoor and play many games. It was one of the most enjoyable moments in my life and I enjoy learning English. After I finished kindergarten, I went to a primary school in Bangi and attended the school for a year. My English teacher would have a story telling session once a week, she would start telling a simple story first and she will choose anybody to reread the story. Everybody must do it at least twice a year. She also taught us by using flashcards in which we have to make sounds from the cards she has shown. If …show more content…
It is just within 40 steps from the house. So, I started my standard two at the school and I was shocked by the poor facilities and the way English was taught is very different from my previous school. I had a hard time at first when trying to adapt with the new environment. My English teacher was quite old and very strict. As far as I remember, there is no class that she left without raising her voice and sometimes when she got angry, she used cursing words too. There are times when she asked the class to pronounce words or give the answer to her question, everyone stayed silenced. Looking at how everyone respond to her, I also do the same thing. Even though I do know the answer but I do not have the courage to speak up. There are times when I was ready to answer but I already lost the
(Sedaris,1999, p. 1) Agreed one could feel the tension in the classroom. She is speaking at an even tone then one feel comfortable then she lashes out at someone. It would be very uncomfortable if someone is in one’s face, especially if one does not know the person. The author
So far, the biggest thing that I have learned in English 1101 is the small things that I can do to improve my writing. Fixing small grammatical errors, such as a misplaced comma, can really improve the way that my writing looks and improve it. When it comes to learning about myself and what works best for me when writing, I’ve found that I do my best writing when I have facts and examples I can use to back up what I am saying. While I did well on the Literacy Narrative, I felt like my writing was actually better on the Evaluation Essay that we did. For the Literacy Narrative I was trying to think of exact quotes and paraphrase a situation that happened to me years ago, so the details may have been fuzzy to me.
In the process, she has made at least one of her students uncomfortable,
What I learned was the Power of Language video taught that with dual learners, you should incorporate some of their language throughout the day. Kelly walked over to some other students that were on the next row and said, “They are some wigger lovers”. This is a term I was unfamiliar with, but amazingly close to sounding like” nigger” lover. I was insulted, she was trying to talk about me personally on the ground that, the people surrounding me weren 't black. More than likely she was saying it directly for me to hear, and this made upset, I walked over in a rage to confront her. “Kelly what the hell did she just say?
Since she doesn’t talk, she ends up separating herself from students, teachers, and even her family. At some point she realizes, “... I am the only person sitting alone,”(Anderson,3). She blocks everyone out because of the shame. She doesn’t think people would care if she told them what happened and ends up feeling without meaning and
At first the people at her new school think that she is a teachers pet because she won't stop raising her hand in class. Which she then got beat up after school. She tried again at Mary S. Black Elementary but the teacher didn't like her so that didn't turn out very well either. When she went to Welch Elementary she was put into special classes. People then started to whisper about the Walls kids all day.
You need to consider using a language they can understand. Talk about familiar topics. Engaging them as much as you can. Share books, rhymes and stories.
In my last week in Wilkinson Middle School I was observing Classroom Procedures .Ms. Culberson is a very fun teacher but she is really strict in every one that enters her classroom knows that .Ms. Culberson might not be in the class whenever the bell rings but her students know to start in the bell ringer. She times her student and they all have to work quickly and quietly. They grade the bell ringer after words she asks for their grade and they have to say it out loud.
She stood her ground though even when the principal called her in to try and make her change things (because she was student body president). This can be seen on page 74 and it explains “We were called “reverse racists.” The principal called me into her office and gently asked that as student body president, I lead the charge to amend the petition so that white students could sign it. I declined politely” (Rhuday-Perkovich 74). Her and her friends were trying to start a petition because of something they felt was inappropriate and offensive and they liked that there were allies of different race supporting them during this
Writing is a vital part of life. Before the creation of written language human communication was limited to verbal, in-person conversations. Everything changed when writing allowed thoughts and ideas to travel farther and more efficient than ever before. Writing is a talent that we learn at an early age and only hone as we proceed through our academic careers. This being said, as with any talent every writer has strengths and weaknesses.
She was the most intimidating, women I ever met. I remember coming into class and she wouldn 't say a word, no Good morning nothing. She was always such a serious person. It 's actually the funniest thing now to think back, and say
