In today’s society, it seems every time we turn the news on there is another school shooting. From the shooting at Columbine in 1999, to Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, and the most recent shooting at Umpqua Community College less than a month ago, more than 75 people have died in those four shootings alone. School shootings have become a major issue in the United States in the past few years. The argument over if teachers and principals should be able to conceal and carry weapons is of major controversy amongst politicians, school boards, parents, and the general public. Wouldn’t parents want to know their children are protected while at school by teachers carrying concealed weapons? Parents rely on the faculty and staff at the school to keep their children safe. No parent ever imagines they will get a phone call to inform them there has been a shooting at their child’s school. However, reality is it is happening more and more often. In the past 65 years, only one or two shootings have happened in an area where guns are prohibited. The known fact somebody is able to carry a gun deters the shooter from going to such place. Massacre shootings always happen in gun-free-zones. In places such as Harrold, Texas and Utah, the teachers and principals are able to carry concealed weapons. There have been no shootings in those areas. Statistics have shown that a shooter has no negotiable issues, they simply want to cause as much chaos in the shortest time as possible before police arrive and they are either incapacitated or killed. If they know someone there may be armed and could possibly stop their plan they are less likely to make their attack at that place. They want to go to a place where nobody can destroy their
