Chocolate’s Health Benefits
On average, Americans eat 2.8 billion pounds of chocolate each year, that is roughly 11 pounds per person. Imagine how many more people would consume this savory sweet if it was officially healthy. Some do consider properties and ingredients in the chocolate healthy. Others only see the sugar and additives some chocolate contains. Doctors and researchers are able to see both sides of the argument and have done research in each areas. For example doctors have found flavonoids, fiber, and potassium in some chocolate. They also see the sugars and dutching in chocolate. All in all, chocolate has a pretty level playing field of reputable true or false health benefits. It is much debated whether the sweet treat we know as chocolate is healthy or not. While some do believe that it is, others consider otherwise and disagree. This does give chocolate some properties that are bodily healthy for us. Chocolate eaters are encouraged to eat more given the information of flavonoids, a healthy natural chemical and antioxidant. “Flavonoids help protect plants from environmental toxins and help repair damage. They can be found in a variety of foods such as fruits and vegetables. When we eat food rich in flavonoids, it appears we also benefit from this antioxidant power.” (Cleveland Clinic.org). These doctors have found natural ingredients in cocoa that can improve heart health, lower cholesterol, prevent blood clots, and lowering blood pressure. “A 100 gram bar of dark chocolate with 70-85% cocoa contains (1):11 grams of fiber.,67% of the RDA for Iron.,58% of the RDA for Magnesium.,89% of the RDA for Copper.,98% of the RDA for Manganese.,It also has plenty of potassium, phosphorus, zinc and selenium.” (Healthline.com) This shows that chocolate has many healthful ingredients that can help the body if processed
