What does the term having rights mean to you? In the novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, many characters have different meanings for having rights, but some people must show courage to have the rights. The novel “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry” by Mildred R. Taylor, is about a black family having the privilege of having their own land. They struggle in their day to day lives from racism and discrimination from white landowners and sharecroppers. Courage is the ability to do something that one is afraid of doing. Being courageous takes a lot of someone to do, which is why having courage takes takes people to another level.

Jamison. Mr. Jamison is in my opinion, the most sympathetic white man in Mississippi towards blacks. Cassie respects Mr .Jamison so much, that she doesn’t say Wade Jamison, she gave him the title of “mister”. He calls Big Ma and Mama “missus” to show his respect towards them. During the Great Depression, white people weren’t often supporting and helping blacks, because of the he stood up against Mr. Simms when he pushed Cassie into the road in Strawberry. He even backs up the credit of the Logan’s land, which caused them to keep their legacy going. Mr. Jamison also gives them lemon heads in some time when he passes their land. He saves TJ for the lynching by the night riders by calling the cops on them. He even supported the Logans for starting the boycott against the Afterwards gives Papa, Uncle Hammer, and Mr. Morrison a safe and comfortable ride home. In the second book, it even confirms that his house has been lit, his dog has been poisoned, and his got lots of threats because he saved TJ. The narrator, which is referred as the mother, has examples that connects with novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. For example, in stanza 1 in “Mother to Son”, the mother explains to her son that life always has its ups and down, but she was able to overcome her struggles anyway.It also shows that even when times get really rough, she is still alive and living well. The stanza also says that her life “ ain’t been no crystal stair”, symbolizing that it was never perfect and flawless like a crystal stair. I think this poem symbolizes Big Ma, because she has a very calming personality and she has a rough path behind her, but doesn’t let that bother her and her current life. Also, in stanza 3, the mother explains to her kid that he couldn’t worry, don’t look back into the past, and never give up, because restarting would be harder. She persevered again and again, and she hasn’t given up and died yet, so her son shouldn’t give up either. Also in the last 2 lines of the second stanza explains how even when she didn’t really know where she was going and had no guide, but still was able to get through in life. Taylor, two main characters have many differences when compared. Stacey Logan, a boy who always attempts to put others before himself, and T.J. Avery, a boy who only thinks of himself, differ greatly in multiple ways. Both children have differences in parenting, personality, and honesty. While it is quite obvious that they are very different, how their parents are able to raise them is one of the most noticeable factors.

In the novel, Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry by Mildred Taylor she uses Stacey Logan. He is a very brave boy who has come up with smart plans so he can stand up for what he believes in and his family. Even though Stacey faced many struggles the main ones were when he came up with the idea to break down the bus, he walked T.J home even though T.J. had been a terrible friend to the Logans, and Stacey stayed and watched what happen when the Wallaces went to the Averys to make sure nothing bad happened to him. Stacey 's actions proved that he was a very brave and smart boy, who loved his family and that he was willing to fight for the land and do whatever he could to help save it even willing to take consequences for it.
The next line, “That courage like a rock, which she” (Millay 11) brings up once again that the speaker wants his or her mother’s courage. The courage is described as a rock, strong and firm never to be falter, and this shows how the speaker thinks about her mother’s courage. The final line of the poem “Has no more need of, and I have.” (MIllay 12) explains why the speaker is unhappy that her mother took her courage with her. The speaker of the poem had her mother to give him or her courage when she was alive, but now because the mother is dead she no longer any way to find courage in his or her
