This essay is based on the recent concluded 3 day, 2 night sea expedition trip Around Ubin.
Roles played in the team
During the expedition, I participated more in the role of self-leadership. For example in the expedition, I would say most of us in the class practise self-leadership as well. Self-leadership can come in the form of taking initiative and caring for the welfare of the peers around you. Some of us are stronger in kayaking long distance while others need the support of their teammate to help them through. During the paddling, when one of your teammate gets tired, you take up the initiative of paddling for your teammate, letting them rest for a while, checking on his/her welfare if they are feeling well, offering some snacks to keep the morale up. When people throw

It was nice kayaking and viewing the familiar sights and sounds of Palau ubin again. I feel our class got off on the right notes; overcoming some of the challenges we might face during the expedition, we use the 3 main approaches to guide us:
1) What to do before the expedition starts
-Pre departure check
During pre-departure check, the safety team and expedition leaders will check on the 4 main elements. Firstly on people if they are feeling well, the total head count. Equipment check such as if the PFD, Kayaks, paddles are in working conditions. The processes such as any change in plan like route, is the group on schedule. Lastly, environment, how’s the weather, is it still safe to kayak when you see a storm approaching, what’s the tide level, are we able to go through the mangroves now.
-Expedition briefing
During expedition briefing, the leaders would cover and re-emphasize on the expedition route, group formation, preventive safety measures, communication protocols, tide, current and wind effect on the expedition.
2) How to manage the
The trip was very informational and educational. The first experiment we did was critter count. We got into groups of 4 or 5 and one person from each group went into the the creek and got a rock and brought it back to the group. Then we looked at the bottom of the rock and observed the organisms. We classified them into group one, two, or three animals.
There were many goals and expectations for this expedition. First of all, the group aimed to find a route across the continent in order to reach the Pacific Ocean and also make a general map of western terrain. Secondly, they were
However managing this large amount of group shows great amount of leadership and commitment. For instance, Zheng He showed his crew members what it meant to be a role model. Even though it was hard for Zheng He to manage this crew, he had bigger things to worry about. Being a role model for his crew meant setting an example so they could follow (Doc. B and C .)
To Lead Myself In the Third Chapter of Greg Hastings’s book Leadership Lessons from West Point – “You Must Lead Yourself First” he talks about three lessons he learnt in leadership during his time as a cadet – each at a different stage in his Cadet career. His first story talks about the time he got hours for participating in a spirit mission launched by an upperclassman in his company and how it taught him to lead himself while also following the lead of others.
Lewis and Clark Expedition Imagine going from the nice spring weather to strong winds and freezing cold winters for two years. This is what Meriwether Lewis and William Clark went tough on their two year expedition searching for the Northwest passage. Now, while you might think they had it easy, Lewis, Clark and their expedition crew went through many challenges while exploring the new land. From finding food to eat, to making alliances with different Indian tribes, this journey was anything but easy.
Group 1: How might the ungulates introduced to Hawaii affect the habitats of native birds? Ungulates, which included cattle, goats, pigs, sheep and horses, are seen to cause devastation of native plants and forests that are the native birds’ habitats. Also, majority of the bird species living in the main island are being restricted to live only on 2 forests because of the decrease in forests; however, due to the feral cattle that eat through native forests, they are threatening the native forest birds and their habitats. Pigs and goats are also seen to cause a serious damage by feeding on native tree ferns and young trees, destroying the woods in which the birds nest.
My Experiences of the Lewis and Clark Expedition In May of 1804, President Thomas Jefferson commissioned Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to lead a fact finding expedition of 59 men, in which I was a part of, through the newly purchased Louisiana Territory. We left in May of 1804 and were told to seek a water passage from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, establish relations with the Native American tribes to inform them that the land was now property of the United States Government, and collect information of the wildlife and its habitats around. This trip took 2 years and 4 months to complete and was very dangerous, long, and tiring.
Few men in the world demonstrate the ability to lead individuals to follow them while leaving a legacy that is emulated throughout history. Christopher Columbus did just that, facing challenges throughout his attempts to voyage across the ocean, he inspired people to follow him and changed the world forever. Providing influence, direction, and purpose, ADP 6-22 (2012) are all key pillars of army leadership that Christopher Columbus displayed throughout his life. His leadership qualities influenced me not only in my military career but my personal life as well. It is not always easy to take the path less traveled, to keep going when others doubt you, and have the fortitude to trust your instincts.
We packed food, drinks, clothing, and any other important things that would be mandatory to need on a long expedition like this. We started to set sail soon, and all seemed okay. We started to sail off north to the Incan Empire. There was about 180 soldier crew members on the ship.
Documentary analysis: Incident at Oglala Incident at Oglala (1992), a documentary by Michael Apted, which is about Leonard Peltier, a Native American activist, who was convicted of murdering two FBI agents during a 1975 conflict on the Pine Ridge indian Reservation. In this documentary, Apted provided an argument, which is Peltier's conviction sparked great controversy by introduced interviewed different backgrounds key players in the incident. This argument is a compelling, because is filled with amount evidences of Peltier' case arrest were under an anxiety, fear historical background between Native Americans on the reservation and the government, also included the reasonable doubts about the legal proceedings fairness. At the beginning of the documentary, Apted described the incident by interviewing some Native Americans, who are the witness in the incident. Also a former assistant FBI regional head of South Dakota, Norman Zigross.
In developing this paper on leadership, I examined what was most important to me as a leader. As I reflected on my leadership philosophy, I thought about my experiences and the principals that I have learned through my own self-discovery and the observation of other leaders that I have had throughout my life. My leadership philosophy paper will focus on what leadership is to me, core values, and knowledge of others. In thinking about my definition of leadership, I thought of what was most important to me in and as a leader.
Leadership has been defined in a variety of ways, there are multiple authors and theorists who have tried to define and understand leadership, all leading to varying theories and conclusions, but one thing that is universally understood is the importance of effective leadership and how someone with good leadership skills can impact so many people around them. (Kakabadse and Kakabadse, 1999; Yukl, 2002; Northouse,2013) The main components that have been identified to play a role in leadership are relations between leader and subordinates, interaction form between leader and followers, the influence that the leader has, the way in which the leader behaves and finally a leader’s traits. (Yukl, 2002) These elements that make up a leader, are then used as building blocks to identify the way in which each specific leader deals with its followers.
Due to that, I have been appointed as mainboard in Adventure and Recreational Club for a year. In several projects carried out throughout my degree, I was the team leader that responsible for building and leading our team. These help me to strengthen my skills to work with others and appreciate others’ ideas or
In fact, leadership is an art rather than a science. The process of learning leadership is a hand-on experience, which focuses on practice instead of concepts itself. This course provides me a chance to gain more insight about leadership and it helps me develop my new image of leadership. Meanwhile, I also use the theories in our textbook as a framework for self-assessment of my leadership skills and try to develop my own leadership style during the
However, according to part two, this the leader should know not to put too much effort into making his men want to do the task- otherwise it would be more efficient to use one’s authority and give the strict order, despite the possibility of not getting as good a result. Balancing the effort put into motivating one’s personnel unfortunately only is a matter of experience. This is why I believe that giving cadets certain responsibilities will help them appreciate the challenge and acquire the experience. For example, if one cadet is given the responsibility of making sure his group meets the schedule it is imposed for a week, he will be confronted with the difficulty of motivating his group for it to be on time. Further, leadership exercises involving a team leader being demanded his team achieves a certain task in specific conditions will directly confront the cadet to the issue discussed
