In the Past few Decades, The World trend is moving towards Globalization. This has created many “Economic Assets”, lifting millions out of poverty, feeding many hungry people all over the world.

But on the other side, it has introduced a new world problem –“Obesity”.

Obesity has become a world-wide issue affecting about 1.9 billion adults all over the world. Overweight and obesity are a relatively new issue on the world stage. The main international bodies which have worked to combat it are the FAO and WHO.

According to NHS statistics, the prevalence of obesity among adults between 18 and 69 years of age has increased steadily from 1992–2004 in Singapore. Asians are considered to be lean in shape but the rate of obesity disapproves this fact. .The Singaporean Government’s Review Committee on National Health Policies undertook a policy review of the country’s healthcare services in the early 1990s. The committee endorsed a new government focus on health promotion and disease prevention in order to reduce morbidity and mortality and control health risk factors (including overweight and obesity) in Singapore. The Review Committee’s Report emphasized the role of the individual in safeguarding his/her own health.

The latest WHO records reveal that – In 2014, more than 1.9 billion adults, 18 years and older, were overweight. Of these over 600 million were obese. The percentage of obese people has increased by 47.5% from 1980 to 2014.
