Britain was defeated in WW2 which gave Singapore more power helped Singapore become independent, the benefits are explained below Britain was also bankrupt in the war so it was hard to maintain an empire; many colonies became independent. Independence allowed Singapore to develop how it wanted this was important to Lee Kuan Yew’s rise to power and what he did. The war made many Europeans who lead most of the trade and businesses companies left before the invasion or after liberation this had major economic effects on Singapore. This meant Singapore had to take care of it’s own business however it was a significant disadvantage to start with because there were no people to lead business and trade. Many buildings were destroyed during the invasion. This meant that people had nowhere to live and had to rebuild. This started off as a disadvantage but it meant that the old buildings were cleared and new ones could be built People were demoralised and starved by the occupation so didn’t feel much motivation to make progress until much later WW2 lasted from 1939 to 1945. As a result of this Japan bombed Pearl Harbor and tried to defeat America. This was one of main factors contributing to the downfall of Imperial Japan since America and a far larger army and in just under 4 years island hopped to Japan where they used two atomic bombs to force the Empire into surrender (However at this time they were already losing ground to the Soviet Union from the North and Britain from the West) and several months before this Soviets made it to Berlin and allied forces were near by so Germany surrendered making Japan’s surrender the end of
