As a military officer in the Army I can relate to all that you mentioned in your discussion. Being younger than your enlisted subordinates provides you the opportunity to learn from your subordinates; especially your senior enlisted Air Force personnel. Ask them for their opinions on certain areas that you may struggle with. It shows that you are humble and interested in learning. It also shows your senior enlisted personnel that you value their insights. This relates to perceived organizational support, which is one of the four workplace attitudes that managers should track (Kinicki & Fugate, 2016, p. 50). It also relates back to participative leadership as mentioned in your discussion, which can be used to facilitate a high-performing …show more content…
By understanding organizational behavior, managers or employees will know how people react to certain situations, how different personalities view the world, or process information to make decisions. Other areas that encompass organizational behaviors are job dissatisfaction or the attitudes of employees while at work. Popović, Maletić, and Paunović (2015) conducted a study on employee satisfaction by interviewing employees at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade in Zemun. This study aimed to identify the causes of employees’ job satisfaction/dissatisfaction, in order to implement measures to improve employee satisfaction and to help improve business performance. This discussion will look at the causes of job dissatisfaction and attitudes within this …show more content…

The Spartans believed that the youngest men in the army should defend the older and more experienced military men especially well. Although their “knees are no longer nimble” , it is apparent that the Spartans valued the wisdom and experience that seniors brought to the battle field nearly as much as their fighting ability. Through rank structure, this notion holds true today in nearly every armed forces organization. The longer a member devotes his life to the organization, along with the achievement of certain qualifications, the higher rank he achieves. Each rank has fewer members than the last, presenting seniors with a sense of reverence from the junior personnel.
The previously mentioned principles will relate to my time as a junior officer because there will be countless occasions where I will need to rely on those around me. When I enter my first unit, it will not matter where I graduated from or what I accomplished as a civilian; What will matter is my ability to effectively lead a team of people who collectively have more experience and knowledge than I do. I realize I cannot rely on just myself to get the required job done and I will go through my own “forming, storming, norming, performing” phases. It is nearly impossible to enter into a team environment as a stranger and instantly begin “performing”. Your team must understand who you are, what your intentions are, and that you are willing to be selfless for the overall
It allows leaders to serve others in diverse ways. It allows trust to build and a sense of pride for both
Leadership, as per my understanding, could mean leading others to rediscover themselves by providing guidance, not through what-to-do lists, so they would reach the necessary urge to reach a better state personally and professionally. During Dorsch employment, I have noticed great potentials in my colleague; I convinced him to switch jobs from a drafting person to a civil engineer, by presenting the textbooks and resources needed, guiding him along the transition phase and by presenting, through examples, how easily could be the learning process and transition. Along my career, I lead my colleagues to produce integrated solutions, by creating the urge to know the answers of different what-if scenarios for their solutions; I bring textbooks and tools to convince them; I present examples of what should be done, the benefits of efforts done and the consequences of careless isolated solutions. Not only one colleague now is persuading her dreams by studying post graduate in Netherlands, but also she got an award to be distinguished;
Study results showed increased employee satisfaction and a reduction in employee turnover rate. (Brunges, M., & Foley-Brinza, C.,
Added to the supervision and oversight of their daily duties, I as a leader am there to help, guide and give that listening ear when needed in whatever capacity. Ensuring that they are aware of all the military and or personal options, and opportunities that are available to them are taken advantage of. Progressing in their careers and a clear path for their future is another aspect of my leadership philosophy that I hold first and foremost. No junior soldier that has passed through my path, whether they have been assigned to me or just work under the same command/unit has not gotten the three infamous questions that I have come to ask throughout my career: 1. What are your goals in life?
Leadership Philosophy Chief Petty Officers owe to their organizations a sound understanding of leadership. Senior Enlisted Leaders (SEL’s) are retained in the military primarily to serve as leaders who effectively maximize the efforts of others so the Navy and Coast Guard can achieve its goals. Effective leaders in the chief’s mess set the tone and are visible amongst the command while constantly leading by example. This paper will explain the author’s leadership philosophy, refer to several influential leaders throughout his career, and incorporate three leadership behaviors from the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) feedback. Leadership Influences
In developing this paper on leadership, I examined what was most important to me as a leader. As I reflected on my leadership philosophy, I thought about my experiences and the principals that I have learned through my own self-discovery and the observation of other leaders that I have had throughout my life. My leadership philosophy paper will focus on what leadership is to me, core values, and knowledge of others. In thinking about my definition of leadership, I thought of what was most important to me in and as a leader.
The connection between results and leadership has been known since the early
Introduction Organizational Behavior is the field of study which investigates the impact that individuals, group and structures have on behavior within the organization. We are born in an organization, we live, we work and most probably we will die in an organization. Yet most of us do not understand how people function, behave and interact between each other within these organizations. We also do not understand if people shape an organization or an organization shapes people. Different people work differently in different situations.
Leadership has been defined in a variety of ways, there are multiple authors and theorists who have tried to define and understand leadership, all leading to varying theories and conclusions, but one thing that is universally understood is the importance of effective leadership and how someone with good leadership skills can impact so many people around them. (Kakabadse and Kakabadse, 1999; Yukl, 2002; Northouse,2013) The main components that have been identified to play a role in leadership are relations between leader and subordinates, interaction form between leader and followers, the influence that the leader has, the way in which the leader behaves and finally a leader’s traits. (Yukl, 2002) These elements that make up a leader, are then used as building blocks to identify the way in which each specific leader deals with its followers.

According to Jong and Hartog (2007) described leadership as a process to influence
Before I attend to this class, I think Organizational Behavior (OB) is a concept how behavior affects the management, leadership and relationship among people in an organization resulting from the meaning of OB word by word. Nevertheless, this assumption was changed after I attend the Organizational Behavior class, which has the subject code BUS 314 thanks to my lecturer- Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hoang, who put huge efforts to inspire me to learn this subject. At the beginning of this course, he drew an overview of Organizational Behavior, is a field of study that explores the impact of three determinants: individual, groups and structure of an organization.
Moreover, both job satisfaction and employee engagement are playing a significant role through accomplishing the organizational goals and objectives effectively and efficiency. Job satisfaction is important in the organizational settings, because according to Robbins and judge in 2013, first of all, job satisfaction affects productivity because several studies have stated that, the more employees are satisfied and happy, they more likely to have more products. Secondly, job satisfaction influences absenteeism, there is a negative relationship among job satisfaction absenteeism because satisfied employees are less likely to miss work. In the third place, job satisfaction again plays an essential role through the decisions of staying or leaving of the workers within the organization which is called turnover .in the fourth stage, job satisfaction is the main consideration of an employee 's organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), also the employees who are more satisfied are more likely to involve in OCBs, and talk more positively about the firm.
