Are video games really a bad influence on our kids? Many people are debating whether or not video games affect children and teenagers in a negative way, but the truth is, it really depends on what genre of game you’re talking about and a specific person’s maturity level. I believe that, video games can have more of a positive effect on children and teenagers than a negative effect because there are many nonviolent game genres such as, adventure, platform, role playing games (RPG’s), massive multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPG’s), puzzle, simulations, strategy tactics, sports, dance/rhythm, and hybrids. The nonviolent games include, first person shooter (FPS’s), fighting, and survival horror games. But, what most people don’t realize is that there are many video games out there that can make your child smarter by challenging there strategy skills. “Video games are hard. People don’t like to play easy games, and games have figured out a way to encourage players to persist at solving challenging problems,” said Eric Klopfer, the director of MIT’s Education Arcade. Many people just look at the negative games and completely blow them off, but what they don’t realize is that there is a vast collection of games that can make you or your child smarter. For instance, Legend of Zelda is a game about this young hero, Link, embarking on a long journey in order to save and protect the young and beautiful princess, Zelda, from an everlasting evil that only Link can destroy. He must go through many dungeons to overcome great obstacles.
