Research has shown that teenagers experience a change in their internal sleep clocks so that waking up early and going to sleep early are difficult. Teens have a hard time waking up early in the morning for school. When teens wake up early they do not absorb as much knowledge and skills as they do when they wake up later and more refreshed. Students tend to fall asleep in class when going to school early. Therefore, it takes time away from learning.
Why Teachers Should Limit Homework “The number one reason kids over the age by eight stops reading for pleasure is, because of too much homework.” Kids today have way too much homework, for them to read in their spare time or just for fun. It is taken away by the amount of homework teachers give out.Teachers sometimes don’t even realize that they are assigning too much homework and that students have homework in other classes.Children go to school for eight hours a day and their brain starts to shut down, causing health complications, too much homework can affect test scores, and students have outside school events, sports, jobs, church, and family to worry about.Teachers should be forced to have a limit on how much homework they give their
Just like in the first paragraph, humans need at least seven to eight hours of sleep to be able to focus in class. Some people may say, well if kids didn’t have curfews they could stay up late studying and doing work. Well the truth is, how many kids would actually stay up and take the time to study when they could play video games and stay on the phone at night instead? Lack of sleep equals lack of energy in the morning, drowsiness during school, and bad grades. Adults get fired if they come to work dragging around and not doing anything.
Kids all over America aren't getting enough sleep and not being able to give there full potential. There has been study's showing that this is affecting the students a lot. This is making kids tired in school so they don't focus as much. Because of the lack of sleep, kids grades are also decreasing. This is affecting there education and could possibly impact there SAT scores ,and maybe even not get them into a college they want to go to.
“Today nearly 2/3 get under 8, and 2/5 get under 6 hours of sleep per night.” This is not healthy for little kids. They should not be getting only 6 hours of sleep. “Since the 1990s, sleep researchers and other health professionals have been telling us that these early school hours are harming children.” Health issues are becoming a big issue for kids. They should’ve said or done something to stop schools from having little kids wake up so early. It isn’t easy trust me.
Adolescents need about 8-10 hours of sleep a night in order to be getting a full night’s sleep; however, majority of high school students don’t get anywhere near that. If a student went to bed at 11 pm they would have to sleep until about 7:30 am for an adequate amount of sleep; however, according to the CDC, almost 70% of high-school students report sleeping 7 hours or less on a regular basis. One reason high school students struggle with getting enough sleep has to do with a hormone in their body called melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone which helps control one’s sleep and wake cycles, but as children approach and begin going through puberty the melatonin in their body starts being produced on a delayed schedule. Therefore, adolescents have a hard time falling asleep or even feeling tired before 11
Teenagers need many hours of sleep for them to be productive during the school day. By waking teens up as early as 5:30 in the morning just so they can get ready for school and be there on time is crazy. There are many different reasons schools should not be starting this early including bad grades, health issues or even injuries. By starting school so early in the morning teenagers aren't getting the eight to nine hours of sleep they need to function correctly during the school day. Having a later start time would be beneficial in more than one way.
Waking up super early for school is dangerous for many reasons. For many students, this scenario is not only feared but a reality they must face. The American Academy of Pediatrics states, “About 90% of high-school-aged adolescents get insufficient sleep on school nights…”(“Early Start Times and Depression”). Most people will say that high school will be the best four years of a persons’ life, or that a person will miss high school once they are out in the real world. High school students would probably beg to differ considering the hours upon hours they spend doing homework or studying. Teens would also all agree that waking up in the early morning to get ready for school, or to not miss the bus is a dreaded part of their daily routines. Health Hours says “According to most sleep experts, most adolescents need about 9 hours of sleep per night. Today nearly 2/3 gets under 8 and 2/5 get under 6 hours of sleep per night.” This quote supports the fact that teenagers do not get the sleep that they need.
