School Start Times I think this school needs a later start time. There are many times where students come in tired and not ready to learn. According to the National Sleep Foundation, teens need 8-10 hours of sleep a night to function properly. Also according to the National Sleep Foundation, when you are sleep deprived, you are as impaired as driving with a blood alcohol level of .08%, which is illegal for drivers in many states. That is like having a bunch of drunk people walk around a classroom trying to figure out a new concept. Pushing back the start time of school would allow students to have an extra thirty minutes or even an hour of sleep.
The National Sleep Foundation says being sleep deprived limits your ability to learn, listen,
In the article, “Our Kids Need More Sleep”, written by Valerie Erde, the author talks about school timing and discusses her opinion on whether it should be pushed back or remain the same. Erde mentions how if students get more sleep, they can report to school on time more often and also be ready to learn at all times. Because of this, she and others believe that school should not start as early as it does. I agree that students need more sleep but I do not agree with her on changing the school timing because kids would still not get enough sleep
These problems can be fixed though, the Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvements at University of Minnesota claims.(Kalish 1-2) In conclusion, lack of sleep can affect scores in school and tend to raise dropout rates. Putting a later starting time can improve student academic scores and lower dropout rates. Even though scheduling may be tough, Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvements claims it’s quite possible.
With times being pushed later students can get the recommended amount of sleep for their age(8-10 hours each night). Clearly, when school starts later into the day, it has a very positive effect on the students attending the
High school starts at 7:30 in the morning in most places. High school students typically get up an hour before or earlier in order to get ready for the day ahead. High schools should begin classes an hour later so that students may have more rest so they may be more aware and more likely to learn. If school began an hour later this would let students get more sleep, as they would more than likely continue to go to bed at the same time they do currently. “Research shows that teenagers’ body clocks are set to a schedule that is different from that of younger children or adults.
School Start Times RING!!!!!!! That school bell starts everyone 's day, but it starts too early. Early school start times are causing students and teachers to be substandard proving why these start times should be pushed to later in the day. Teenagers health could really be on the line due to the early wake up times. In addition, students and adolescents academic performance is not as good as it could be.
In Conclusion, schools should start at 10 or at least 9 so that kids could get enough sleep. Many kids don't get enough sleep and that is a big problem, but if we have schools later it will help a lot with lack of
When kids are tired, their grades are usually worse than other kids. They don’t think straight or they just mess up. It would be better if school just started after 8:30. There are studies that early is better too. But there are more for later being better.
For about 20 years now, school districts across the United States have debated delaying high school start times to start later so adolescent students are allowed more time to sleep, which studies say helps school performance and brain development. Most high schools in the United States start class at 7:59 a.m or earlier. Statistics show that starting school at these early hours can not only result in multiple physical, psychological and educational problems, but also widespread sleep deprivation. With a later school starting time, all of these issues can be resolved. Students need 8 ½ to 9 ½ hours of sleep per night in order to thrive both academically and physically throughout the day.
To begin with teenagers usually need 8.5 hours of sleep a day. Not enough sleep for students has gone to far. 22,000 kids all across the USA are stressed and tired for school. School should start later because starting school early is not just a student complaint, it's an observation backed up by science. Studies have shown the brain doesn't properly function until two hours after students leave there rooms in the morning.

For the last few years, schools across the United States have made conscious efforts to delay school start times. The push for a later school start has been led by doctors and parents who believe students do not receive the suggested eight-and-a-half hours of sleep daily. A later start time does not guarantee more sleep for students as students may just go to bed even later usual. A later start time could also change the times for after-school activities for many students. As a result of a later start time, both students and teachers will come home to families late into night.
And it helps students ability to learn. One reason school times should start later is because it will help students catch up on sleep. “Sleep deprivation has become virtually epidemic among American teenagers. Research suggests that adolescents require about 8.5 to 9 hours of sleep, but according to the National Sleep Foundation, only 14% achieve this goal.” said Julie Peorgers from The Brown University Child and Adolescent Behavior Letter. Not acquiring the recommended amount of sleep can have repercussion of the human body and brain.
Exhaustion makes you grouchy and depressed. Having a good nights sleep makes you feel refreshed and so much better than not getting enough or any sleep at all. The thought of starting school classes later is a magnificent idea. It gives children more time to sleep and to feel more refreshed when they wake up and head off to school. One of the best things is that students will not be tired in school.
These things will improve one’s health. In addition to improving one’s health, it is also better for one’s concentration. The average student needs about ten hours of sleep; however, most students, especially teens, only get around seven hours of sleep. If school started later students would be able to sleep in and therefore get more sleep which would increase their concentration in class.
Start Times and Depression”). Because of the lack of sleep students face, it poses serious problems for them the next day inside and outside of the classroom. Countless schools across America start earlier than the recommended
