There is at least 300 books banned a year for foul language, but don’t you think that an invasion of the authors freedom of press and an invasion of children 's first amendment as well? So I think that books should not be banned. I have three main idea the first on is that the books can be about history and they have some language back then that was fine but is not fine today. The second reason is that libraries should be able to hold all types of books but have an age restricted area. The last reason is that it will get rid of children’s first amendment, and the authors first right as well. Some people believe that books should not be banned from schools because they need to learn what happened.
“Having the freedom to read and the freedom to choose is one of the best gifts my parents ever gave me,” Judy Blume. The issue is there are both pros and cons upon banning and challenging books. Some people may be all for it and believe their children should not be exposed to realism that comes from books ‘trying to protect them.’ What ever happened to the freedom of speech? Books are constantly challenged or even banned.
There are multiple reasons why parents are banning books. First, this text states, “Children should not be exposed to sex, violence, drug use, or other inappropriate topics” (Procon.org). To explain, parents are banning books from schools because they do not want their children to be exposed to these inappropriate topics. Moreover, banning these inappropriate topic books would be a great deal for parents and their children. Furthermore, the same text states that “Keeping books with an inappropriate content out of libraries protects kids, but does not stop people from
Books are an essential way to gain knowledge whether they are controversial or not. Thousands of books have been banned from public libraries and schools due to being deemed ‘inappropriate’ by parents, administrators, or religious leaders. Whether Americans should ban books in public libraries and schools is an often debated topic. This censorship of books is dangerous, as it restricts the American people's’ ability to access information, leaving Americans ignorant.
Every child deserves a proper education. Banned books are depriving students of a well rounded, culturally aware, literary education because of the culture that is discarded, the history that is being withheld, and the education that young people could get through these banned books. The point of history is to learn from it and learn from others mistakes, but how can we do that if we are not allowed to learn it. As teachers shouldn’t you be teaching us how to make judgment calls like understanding that Mark Twain was a racist, but a man of his time and that doesn’t change him being an amazing writer. We cannot learn things such as that if we cannot even read most of Mark Twain’s books. In the 1930’s the Nazi’s burned any and every book or paper
Would you want anyone to ban books so you couldn’t further your education? School Board members should not ban certain books because students can get more of a challenge from certain books, you also can get many life lessons from a more mature book, and students also get more of a choice which means more books to read.
When school libraries ban books students are left with books about only positive things and an unrealistic picture of the world. If a book like To Kill a Mockingbird is banned students lack the intelligence about such topics taught in the book. To Kill a Mockingbird teaches about bravery, the real world, treating others with respect, and many other things. If a student is never exposed to this he or she will not know about racism or other unfair and unjust things in the world. If students are “protected” from real world situations they will not succeed in life. If someone has an unrealistic expectation of the world they will not know how to handle hard situations that come their way. Schools should educate their students about the world not “protect” them from it. It is not only am educators job to teach academics it is also their job to prepare their students for their life ahead of them. In conclusion this shows that banning books shelters students from the outside
There are both pros and cons to banning book in school. According to ProCon.org, “Parents have the right to decide what material their children are exposed to and when.” Parents have the right to ban books so they can protect their children from violent content. Children need to be protect from content that could scar them. ProCon.org also states that “Children should not be exposed to sex, violence, drug use, or other inappropriate topics in school or public libraries.” Children should not learn about such things until they are old enough. Kids can be influenced by the things that they are taught at a young age. “Keeping books with inappropriate content out of libraries protects kids, but does not stop people from reading those books or prevent authors from writing them.” Many people think because they are banned means you can not read them. People can still read these books just not at a young age, this also should not stop authors from writing books such as To Kill a Mockingbird. There are people that also still believe that books should not be banned.
Censorship in schools may not be the best choice for enriching the future minds of the United States of America. Children of the United States of America should have the right to learn about anything for it is there amended right. Taking knowledge away from them and censoring it should not be the answer to keeping our Children pure it should be what we teach our kids. We need to teach them right and wrong that is what will keep our child’s mind pure. Many books are being taken off shelves every day in student libraries because a couple people do not think that the book is suitable for children. Children just like us have a mind of their own and should be able to make their own decisions by themselves to either pick up the book or to leave it alone. Censorship does not exist in public places such as stores even though children enter stores everyday these kids have learned the decency of what they should or should not do they learned what they want and what they do not want what they like and what they do not like that should be a reason that children should be able to make censorship their choice.
There are two sides to the book banning: those for it and those against it. These sources will show why books get banned. First, there is the author Macey France she makes her point of saying why books should be banned by showing the bad parts of banned books. The next author, Jenni White has a similar approach and even uses a quote from France. This next author, Emma Greguska writes her point about how we should not ban books, saying these books prepare the students for the future and teaches them how to deal with real-life problems in a safe space. This article will also be talking about the book series Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone it was written by J.K. Rowling, this book will be used to prove
Students can use books to grow their knowledge about our everyday day life. “It is important to help students see that everyone 's view counts” (Scales). By allowing students to see different points of views they’re able to experience situations unfamiliar to them and learn about different cultures and societies. If they don’t have the opportunity to read these books then they might miss out on these vital lessons. Children need to know about sensitive topics and strong ideas. If kids are not exposed to this material than they might not truly understand big pieces of history. If books were banned we would have less options to read and our education wouldn 't be as strong.
Banned Books are books that are prohibited by law or to which free access is not permitted by other means. Banning books is against the writers right for freedom of speech, which is the first amendment. Students have the right to read, reading is not illegal, so why ban books? If a reader is mature enough to handle some curse words or bad behavior then they should be able to read banned books. Some people believe books should not be banned in schools/libraries but just because you do not like it does not mean it should be taken away, that is the authors freedom of speech. Also, some say that you should not be exposing bad behavior or language to students but in reality they hear and see these things everyday, and by banning a book, that is not protecting them.
Torch every book. Char every page. Burn every word to ash. Ideas are incombustible. And therein lies your real fear.” ― Ellen Hopkins. No matter what people do to ban or censor books it won’t get rid of books forever. Ideas can not be destroyed and can’t be get rid of. Every book that has been created has a message behind it. For it be for accepting yourself or people to show you the real world. Either way those are all to teach us something. When you ban and censor books inside those books are the fears you hold and that you don’t want to see. It is because of that reason why today there are so many social problems in our world. Not banning books wouldn’t solve all the social problems in the world but it would take us into the right direction. Keep people from the truth of banned books is the same as lying to them. Not letting your children and even just normal people read something because you don’t see it correct does it make it correct for them not to read that book. Banning and censoring books is keeping the truth while telling lies and holding mankind from moving
At one point in time, over 7,220 books have been challenged to be banned. Though these books have been removed for the safety of children, not all books should be banned for many reasons. These include the fact that banning books is infringing on the First Amendment, keeping children from understanding the real world, and, even though there are many reasons for book banning, not banning books could help a student’s education and can even work against itself.
Books should not be banned because people have rights to any book. “You get to feel things, visit places and worlds you would never otherwise know. You learn that everyone else out there is a me, as well. You 're being someone else, and when you return to your own world, you 're going to be slightly
