Some students rely on memorization yet without retention -and this can be a bad habit. Educational success can be accomplished through different methods and techniques; below are some strategies that students can apply:
• Mnemonics – It’s a strategy that uses the first letter of the word to create an acronym that conveniently refines the idea. Here’s an example: S.M.A.R.T. Goals – Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time based goals. It’s simple but can be easily notable.
• Visual Imagery- Some students like illustrations, diagrams, flash cards and drawings to see the whole idea. The impact of visual aids retains useful information, disregarding unnecessary details that may take time to read.
• Active reading and listening – The former is reading with critical thinking, while the latter is hearing with understanding. You digest what you read or listen, and point out important keywords to expound.
• Memorization – A study habit that requires mental process to retain a particular data. This usually includes re-reading and re-writing notes to be effective and
I like writing all my notes out when studying for a test rather than simply reading off the slides given to me. I use this tactic when studying for every test. I use all of these methods to effectively learn, making me multimodal. In Chapter four we learned that there is more than one type of memory.
The reading strategies we discussed in class and in the courses content made me a better reader by showing me many different ways to read and write and understand it very well. It uses all these methods such as the KWL charts, writing a memo and reading the novel I selected helping me improve my skills greatly to become a better reader. Putting together the reading, writing oral communication and examining media all connected in helping me become a good reader and helped me to comprehend the understanding of making a personal connection to the world around you. That 's what help 's you in the future to make the the best choices possible so that later on when you make a mistake in reading you can look at the experience you had and learn how to properly correct yourself because at the end of the day they all deal with different skill set 's but all help you to become better in everything you
Many students work hard to obtain the best test scores and achieve “Straight A’s” in order to have a better chance of attending their dream college. Schools and parents often encourage children from a young age to perform their best and challenge themselves. Often the students who strive for excellence live their dream of
Confucius once said “The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential... these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence”. My goals require me to be centered, composed, devoted and determined in all that I do. Like a tree, Stevenson University has rooted all their academic programs on the achievement of excellence for all the success-hungry students that step through the doors each year. In reactions, students sprout into the field of there choice prepared and equity with a yearn for excellence embedded deep within their hearts.
The academic student attends school with a scholarly mentality. He focuses on class development, strives for an excellent GPA, and may be considered a brainiac. Spending countless sleeping hours studying for assessments, sacrificing extracurricular activities, and foregoing
Jane Goodall once said, “What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” For being a member in the National Honor Society, you are required to make choices involving the four pillars representing the activity itself; scholarship, service, leadership, and even character. Like Goodall says, you have the power to make anything happen, but it is your gift to be able to choose what you will produce. If anyone is being honest, it is a privilege to qualify for such an inspirational activity. Being a part of The National Honor Society requires you to encompass scholarship, service and character which I tend to often demonstrate and constantly strive for.
Graphic and Semantic Organizers • will give the students tools to help them examine and show relationship between text • help students write well organized summaries Question and Answer Strategy • students will have a clear purpose for reading and focus their attention on what they are learning • assist students in thinking actively as they read • students will be encouraged to monitor their comprehension as they read • will help students review what they have learned • 3-2-1 Strategy (this may or may not be used depending on student background knowledge of main idea and key details.) • students fill out at 3-2-1 chart and answer the following questions -3 things you found out -2 interesting things -1 question you still have •
I learned in this activity how crucial time management skills will be to my ability to complete this course successfully. The analysis from the questionnaire (Table 2) as well as keeping a record of what activities I focus on for a couple of days, opened my eyes to a few areas of improvement. From the patterns observed I could see that most of my time was taken up by work and commitments as well as procrastination. Not being able to juggle theses successful led to irritation and was unproductive. Research suggests that managing ones emotions, being self-aware and self-motivate can be factors for success for a student (Allan, 2009).
Academic success to me is achieving good grades and understanding the material to get good grades. Academic success also means to have an good attendance. I already get mostly A’s and B’s, but I am not good at staying on top of things. To improve my academic success I will attend class more often, be more organized, pay attention in class, and not procrastinate.
Nonetheless, students should identify which few methods enhance their memory and understanding best when learning, as different students have different learning needs. Likewise, students, who are usually required to recall learning materials, are recommended to view future new materials with strong enthusiasm and determination (Shuilleabhain, 2014), as it is an approach to motivate students. However, students should take care not to practice learning techniques they are not familiar with, especially when nearing the exams; as students who, Lan (cited in Bednall and Kehoe, 2011, pp. 205-226) believes, “engage in unfamiliar strategies may induce a high working memory load, thereby diminishing the effectiveness of their study efforts.” Also, both teachers and parents alike should take the practical and relevant steps in ensuring that their students/children are well schooled in the manner of implementing effective learning techniques in their academic life.
It involves setting goals and managing your time. Developing my motivation and concentration skills will help me to overcome the lure of procrastination. Effective self-management will help me to avoid stress and provide me with more opportunities to get times to finish my
Learning strategies represent the behavior and thoughts, which occupies a student during learning. Time management: Time management is a very crucial component if you are willing to have a productive lifestyle. To be honest, I have always had issues with managing my time efficiently. This problem had become a huge obstacle once I got into college. Thus, attending a lecture that focuses on time management helped me a lot with this problem by introducing me to different aspects related to time management: planning, SMART goals, and important/urgent matrix. Learning to make a specific plan for my daily tasks and make a to-do list to make my day as productive as possible is something very helpful which was advised to me by the instructor of this lecture Mr. Irfan.

In second language learning, using visual aids is a necessity teaching strategy in both English as Second Language (ESL) classroom and English as Foreign Language (EFL) classroom (Allen, Kate & Marquez, 2011). Visual aids can be defined as using objects, drawings, charts, photographs, videos, multimedia presentation, etc.
