To most, Post-traumatic stress disorder is a phrase synonymous with war veterans and coping victims. But to me, PTSD simply sums up my childhood. My mother immigrated to the United States when she was twelve years old. An orphan of the Cambodian genocide, she was scarred mentally and physically by years of enslavement and inconsolable abandonment. My mother’s PTSD gave way to her everyday paranoia, and being raised by her has made growing up very challenging.
For the rehabilitation floor, I worked towards providing high-quality care to patients in severe pain after numerous hours of physical and occupational therapy. Additionally, I volunteered in my community health center's patient advocacy department, addressing the needs of low-income families by connecting them to vital resources such as disability support, childcare assistance, and groceries. I aimed to be a holistic resource, improving their overall well-being and leveraging public health policies and programs, such as WIC, for the benefit of my community. I communicated with the patient’s, my preceptor, other nurses, the PCT’s, PT, and the kitchen staff. When I was in the patient’s room I was sure to explain what I was doing, and answer any questions the patients had about their plan of care. I worked with my preceptor throughout the shift, asking questions, clarifying orders, clarifying medications, procedures and more. I communicated with other nurses by thoroughly receiving and handing off report. I communicated with the PCT’s that I would perform the vital signs for my patients and worked with the PCT when my patient needed labs to be sent down.

Day two clinicals. This day went so much smoother. I had the same two patient as the day before and one got discharged and I got a new patient. I feel like my second day I had an amazing relationship with my one patient. I got her to eat a little more that day because I knew what to talk to her about.

The transition from eighth grade to ninth grade is one of the most difficult but unforgettable things a student must do in his adolescence. For me, it was filled with new opportunities of taking Ap classes and joining clubs. One of these cubs was Youth and Government (Y&G). For as long as I can remember my brother, Riad, has boasted about how amazing Y&G is and how it has changed his life. My brother is three years older then me, so as a freshman he was a senior in Y&G.
In this role I have been able to practice a variety of aspects related to patient health. Much of my practice is related to occupational injuries and recovery. I also offer acute care, minimal chronic med management, a lot of health education, health/wellness/preventative issues and on occasion
Physical Therapy Assistant is an interesting field; it is a job that helps individuals in need. I interviewed Lucero because she is currently working in the same field that I see myself working in the future. The interview took place on November 29th; it lasted an hour and a half. The interview was about me trying to understand more about my future life as a physical therapist assistant. The purpose of this interview was for me to envision if this is the profession that I want for myself, in the future.
I am currently working as an LPN rooming patients in an OB/GYN clinic. My job includes taking vitals, updating medical records as necessary, preparing exam rooms for the providers, administering injections and medications per order, and recording signs and symptoms for the providers. I work along side the providers and midwives assisting with procedures. I place OB patients on the non-stress testing machines and educate patients on topics such as breastfeeding, maintaining a healthy pregnancy, etc. Working here, I 've been able to witness many situations that drive me to want to succeed as a doctor, such as being able to assist patients who are in active labor or empowering patients to take better care of their health.
My first activity was sitting in the bed board meeting. This takes place every morning with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), departments nurse managers, departments charge nurses, house supervisor, wound care nurse, Infectious Disease (ID) and social services. The purpose for this meetings is to address important information to plan the day. Some of the information that was mention was: How many patients are admitted at this time, open beds, pending discharges, foley telemetry, central lines, sitters, and inmates.
Physical therapy as a profession actually originated during World War I in response to the need created when our soldiers were injured in war. A physical therapist assistant provides services under the direction of a licensed physical therapist. Physical therapist assistants work in many settings including sports facilities and hospitals. They help many people ranging from athletes to the elderly. The most common injury is ankle sprains followed by groin pulls.
Not only did I have hands on experience with patients but I also performed clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, recording demographic and insurance coverage information. At Piedmont Hospital I provided accurate education on procedures that were needed for new patients. Over the summer observing at Emory Hospital I accessed the effectiveness of therapy plan by observing patients’ reponses and observed patients during PT procedures to determine discomfort or pain. The last place that I completed my observation hours was at the Childrens Hospital of Atlanta in providing cold pack treatments and operated and maintained therapy equipment. Last but not least, I assisted the patients in administering active and passive therapeutic exercises.
The thing I did best today, was, communicating with my patient, and doing his physical assessment. My clinical rotation this quarter for Galen College of Nursing ,is at the VA medical center, in Louisville Ky. The VA medical center is a govt hospital for the veterans.
During a clinical shift, I would be responsible for providing care to patients with malignant hematological diseases, completing pertinent assessments and teaching skills, such as how to care for the mouth when experiencing mucositis and how to avoid infections. Self-reflection on Professional
