Surgical Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is a part of every day life in order to become a fair-minded thinker. Within the next couple of years I am hoping to become an educator for future Surgical Technologist in our hospital. We as adults working in the medical field have to you utilize this on a daily basis, but being human we all fall short to often. The ability to analyze a concept objectively, considering the facts and differing perspectives to reach a sound, logical conclusion is thinking critically (Mendes, 2017). This is the definition that can help everyone in the workplace. Critical thinking is not an automatic thought process, it is a skill that everyone needs to be educated on sometime in their life. For example the study of history, most students memorize the study guide to pass the exams, and shortly after much of the information is forgotten (Paul & Elder 2012). As a Surgical Technologist we use activated knowledge more often than we think. In a run of a day, the techs on evening shift have 4 to 5 surgeries that we have little experience in, so we have to memorize knowledge given to us by co-workers, more efficient in the area, in order to perform the surgery to the liking of the specific …show more content…

Ideally concepts are essential to our life, we just may not notice the use of them (Paul & Elder, 2012). To become a critical thinker people must develop theories in order to form the idea to carry out the thought. We use concepts, ideas, and theories to interpret data, facts, and experiences to answer questions, solve problems, and resolve issues (Paul & Elder, 2012). This is part of the eight elements that comprise the thought process. The goal in my future is to resolve the issue of uneducated Surgical Technologist hiring in to our facility. The success of my career depends on critical thinking. This is a skill that is very important in an educator 's role, from making judgment calls, to coming up with better ideas for employees. The negativity and activated ignorance will have to be turned to positive and activated knowledge for success in a leaders
