In general, strategies are the procedures used in learning, thinking, etc., which serve as a way of reaching a goal. In language learning, there are some strategies to help students to reach a goal (i.e., second/foreign language learning) (Oxford, 1993). “Language learning strategies are specific actions, behaviors, steps, or techniques that students (often intentionally) use to improve their progress in developing L2 skills. These strategies can facilitate the internalization, storage, retrieval, or use of the new language. Strategies are tools for the self-directed involvement necessary for developing communicative ability” (Oxford, 1993, p. 18). In addition, learning strategy was defined as "an attempt to develop linguistic and sociolinguistic competence in the target language to incorporate these into one 's interlanguage competence" (Tarone, 1983, p. 67). Based on the definitions, the study of learning strategies should be taken into consideration by those are engaged in the process of foreign/second language teaching and learning.
