The first domain in the Florida Principals Leadership Standards, Student Achievement, is divided into two separate Standards. The first standard is about Student Learning Results and achieving previously set standards. Out of the many leadership styles that were discussed in class, I felt that the path-goal theory fit the purpose of this standard the best. Standards from both these organizations require that a principal have a vision of learning, advocate for students, collaborate with teachers and the community, provide a safe environment, act with integrity, and understand the social and political confines in which we live. In every school there are set policies and procedures so that all people working within the school are aware and stick to the same rules. Consistency is imperative. All adults working in the school would be : teaching staff, support staff, lunchtime supervisors, kitchen staff, governors, after school staff and temporary staff. There are many policies in schools that children and staff should be aware of.
The principal at Booker T. Washington school accredits the immense success of the school with interpersonal communications skills which center on collaboration, networking, and building relationships. As a consequence, faculty and staff of Booker T. Washington are placed in positions of leadership. First, Principal Kiner relinquished managerial control to qualified staff members who are accountable for areas such as athletics, scholarship, guidance, technology, and school improvement. Also, Principal Kiner started visiting the classroom and interacting with the teachers and student body. For example, she knows her students by name and expects the staff to be knowledgeable of students issues outside of school.
As a teaching assistant you can give children and young people the tools to building relationships by modelling appropriate behaviour. To encourage trust and understanding, it is necessary to ensure that children understand instructions. Whether for an activity or a fire drill, any miscommunication of instructions can lead to misunderstanding and feelings of unease. When giving instructions it is important to make them simple and concise so that children can remember them.

Calvin Neal Exploring a Health Career: Physician Assistant Ever since my cousin Paul, whom I’ve always looked up to, went to college and became a PA, I’ve wanted to follow in his footsteps. The definition of a physician assistant is “someone qualified to assist a physician and carry out routine clinical procedures under the supervision of a physician.” However, physician assistants can be so much more than that. They work in numerous fields such as pediatrics, obstetrics, orthopaedics, and with several health care providers such as nurses, surgeons, and physicians.
I want to become an assistant principal for one simple reason, the children. I believe that all children can learn under the right conditions. With this in mind, I feel that instructional leaders are responsible for ensuring that the conditions for learning are embedded in the school’s culture. Although my role as a Learning Team Facilitator enables me to have an impact on the academic achievement of students through working with teachers, I believe that becoming an assistant principal will help me to be more of a driving force throughout the school.
