Students ages 12-18 should be going to school after 8:30 am. If you go to school before that time, see how negative that can be for your well being. Middle school and high school students are starting school early in the day, and it is negatively affecting them. For example, they do not get a good night’s sleep, which affects their schoolwork. Another example is that delaying school times can reduce symptoms of depression, which is very concerning. Lastly, some students are suffering from the same symptoms as adults with sleeping disorders. School should begin later in the day because most students do not get a full night’s sleep, delaying school can reduce symptoms of depression, and some students are suffering from the same symptoms as adults with sleeping disorders. First of all, school should begin later in the day because most students do not get a full night’s sleep. The American Association of Sleep Medicine agrees. They stated quote, “ Middle school and high school should start no earlier than 8:30 am,” and, “...prevents students from getting a full night’s sleep, which will affect their work in school.” Consequently, teens and preteens are not getting the full sleep their bodies require. Dr. Nathaniel Watson has provided this information. He says quote, “ It’s not easy. It’s hard having to switch bus schedules or after school activities.” But undoubtedly, this can be opposed, because even if there are many cons to switching school times, such as the difficulty of switching bus schedules, there are still many pros to switching school times. As Harvard and Oxford University will tell you, switching school times can benefit students. They stated that quote, “ Research shows that many schools recommended adjusting schedules, as it improves focus in class.” Obviously, school should begin

Many people argue whether school start times should stay the same or become later in the day. Most students already don't get enough sleep during the night and that can affect their learning experience in school (Wahlstrom). However some positive effects can still come from waking up early in the morning and getting to school around the same time. Although good can come from waking up early in the morning and sleeping in, students still need later school starting times to improve their overall health.
However, more problems will be present if a new schedule is created. Osage Trail Middle School and Fort Osage High School should not opt for a later start time because it would cost the school more money for bus transportation, could conflict with students’ jobs and other responsibilities, and doesn’t necessarily mean students will be more rested. “In the current economic climate, many school systems are cutting costs by increasing class size (i.e., hiring fewer teachers). Achieving the AAP's well-intentioned goal would require districts to spend more money on buses at the same time they spend less in the classroom”(Source 3). Schools are already having a hard time paying for necessary items and funding for their schools.
70 percent of teens aren't getting enough sleep. Activities also can interfere with a students sleep. Including any activity you choose to do, it may be sports, gymnastics, dance of maybe even after school club but if they end later that's a problem.
Starting school later can actually improve your learning, health and even your attitude and all of that can be changed by just starting school at 8:30AM. Kids don't start taking in information until 8:30AM because that is when the brain starts to really work. According to National sleep foundation ¨ teenagers are naturally inclined to stay up later and get up later in the morning.¨ ¨Starting school at 8:30 improves a student's chance of success,¨ according to the (National sleep foundation). Not only do teens want to sleep more, but sleeping more actually improves their health.
The general attitude of the bus drivers would be so much better if the school day started later in the morning. Having later buses would be so much nicer in many categories. One of the big things is that they would actually be later. It would make it that more students have more time to sleep in.
Teen could start school times later to improve their health, and live longer. If schools don’t take action know they will be the cause of why adolescents experience permanent damage. Therefore, more the ricks teen are taking of sleep deprives is depression, obesity, bad grades, etc, school need to take action NOW. If school are going to take action there decisions will be the best because it’s going to benefit students health in many way. They will re-store any information they learned during the day, it will also build muscle and bone while if they don’t sleep they will not learn anything or have strong muscles and bones.
This may sound like an outlandish problem, but this is what the average teenager goes through. Schools often set early start times like 7:50 am. Some people argue that these times save money and don’t interrupt after school programs. Others argue that adolescents and teens aren’t getting enough sleep. Schools should start later because of academic benefits, health benefits, and the safety of students.
If students have lack of sleep, they may not pay attention to the roads and the drivers on the roads, which increases the risk of traffic accidents, (according to www.npr.org). The increased risk of traffic accidents may also be because of how dark it is outside when students have to walk over to the bus stop. It’s so early when kids’ buses come, that it’s usually dark outside, and drivers may not see kids walking. The final reason why middle and high school start times should be later is for the protection of student health.
Waikato Times says, “If students were to be pampered by a late school start, we would get a rather big shock when, further down the track, our employers would expect us to begin work at 8am.” There are also a large quantity of students who have after school jobs and due to late start late release school days they will not be able to put in as many hours as they would if the school hours were left alone. Students are also involved in sports that require after school practices. School getting out later means that practices will run later too. This would leave students less time to complete homework, not to mention the students who live out of town and have a long drive to get
Teens were are very relaxed and concentrative when they have had enough sleep which is also very good for their bodies because the brain cells stay alive rather than die because of the lack of sleep that teens are getting. “24 hours without sleep for teens leaves you as an impaired as if you were legally drunk. It also causes brain cells to die” (Hudson). If teens pull an all nighter which is very frequent because they never finish homework at an early hour, it causes their brain cells to die and their bodies to act as if they were drunk. Lastly, school starting later would be robust for teens, and it can save them from all nighters (when their cells start to
One other reason why school should start later is because it is more convenient. In the first place it’s better for one’s health. In order for your body to grow and develop you have to get enough sleep. If you do not get enough sleep it will lower the immune system and increase one’s chances of getting ill.
