The career that fascinates me and what I plan to be when Im older, is a Dental Hygienist. A dental hygienist is a stressful job, but it helps a lot of people. You are helping people get better teeth and even look better, because when people have straight pretty teeth, they seem to have an upgrade in their looks. I haven’t always wanted to be a dental hygienist, I had many other career choices. But, something about making people smile when I’m the reason they look good doing it makes me happy.
I have gained work experience within the dental profession and understand the working environment, gaining job satisfaction from helping others. I would like to develop my knowledge within a Dental Practice as a Dental Hygienist and Dental Therapist. The book I am reading is Travel Team, by Mike Lupica. I really have enjoyed this book so far because it’s about the sport I love, which is why I keep reading it. It’s about a kid named Danny Walker who is mainly known for his shortness, but that doesn’t stop him. He may be the tiniest kid on the court, but he plays just as good as the 6 foot post on his team. Danny loves basketball and every time he steps out on that court, he plays with his whole heart. Nobody or nothing can take that away from him. He would do anything to play on the “all-star” basketball traveling team, but his dreams are crushed when he doesn’t make the team because he is supposedly too short.

I told myself that I wanted to be involved in a career that is very hands-on. That’s when I decided to make the

Knowing that I will be seeing real patients makes me feel excited and nervous at the same time. I feel prepared because I would have a basic knowledge of using my instruments, knowing what looks normal in the oral cavity or not and how to present myself professionally. I would feel nervous seeing patients because I will not have as much time for cleaning as I did this semester, I would be watched by my instructors very intensely and the patients might become edgy because I will not be as fast as the registered dental hygienist. I understand, that is normal to feel unsure about things in life that might look foreign or new but it is important to stay focused and overcome all the obstacles.

My job is to explain to every patient that oral hygiene is very important. This implies to all ages, an oral hygiene routine takes two minutes to brush and floss your teeth at home. Since I really enjoy educating all patients, I would like to do more. To do more at my job it will be to become a dental hygienist.
