CNA’s do the job duties that registered nurses are not able to do. As a certified nursing assistant one’s job duties are to do the basic care to the patients that need help with everyday activities because the nurses do not have time for it. The activities that certified nursing assistants do are “Clean and bathe patients or residents, Help patients use the toilet and dress, Turn, reposition, and transfer patients between beds and wheelchairs, Listen to and record patients’ health concerns and report that information to nurses,Get patients’ vital signs, such as blood pressure and temperature, and Serve meals and help patients eat”(Irimia R, Gottschling M). Many Certified nursing assistants would like to point out that many of these nurses or other medical professionals think they don’t have to help out when a patient needs help, they just go right to the CNA. I have been able to work side-by-side with a Pathologists ' Assistant since day one and because of this, I fully understand their role in the medical society. I owe a lot of what I learned as a grossing technician to them because of their guidance, input, and examples. The more I asked them questions and the more I watched them work, the more captivated I became by their role and realized I wanted to be in their position. In December of 2008, I completed a Certified Nursing Assistant and Patient Care Technician course at Pima Community College in Tucson, AZ. I applied for my CNA License after passing my exam but, was denied at that time. The state board stated that not enough time after absolute discharge had passed for a 2001 felony conviction (I needed to wait 5 years after complete discharge and it had only been 4 years). The course allowed me to think beyond my current practice knowledge and acquired innovative ways to evaluate the situation at hand. The learning objective in program outcome four helps set standards that I will use to guide my clinical practice to meet various healthcare needs. Using the case studies has helped to further enhance my knowledge on disease physiological state, using differential diagnosis, disease manifestations, and clinical presentation. I agree with you Walter. Nursing is a teamwork. In an acute hospital setting, an RN is assigned a set of patient to deliver care that means RN has full responsibility about these patients. In this case, RN who is the primary care nurse can complete her task by herself or delegate some of the task to the nursing assistant according to their scope of practice. The abilities to delegate, and supervise other healthcare workers is not an easy job.
CNA Certification I was really looking forward to getting my job at Winner Regional Long Term Care. This was the summer after my freshmen year and I had just turned 16. My mom and my friend Mollie really made me believe I would have a lot of fun while helping people.
Upon arriving to the unit this morning, I quickly realized today was going to be a chaotic day with the current patient census, and all of the new admissions. I was able to assist the night charge nurse with today’s assignments, while she helped with the code, and the day began. I informed my team that today was going to be a long day, and encouraged them to use each other and myself for help. I recommended they taking a few minutes to coordinate their work after receiving report. At 0745, when Jane informs me that the patient in 408 has fallen, I am quick to get into the room and do an assessment again.
Evolution from Novice to a Beginning Professional Nurse Looking back when I started my nursing school, I can proudly say that I have evolved both physically and psychologically. I was not sure if nursing was the right choice for me at first because I had difficulties interacting with people outside my family circle. The first semester was challenging for me because I did not know how to interact with my class mates and felt isolated each time there is a class activity. I joined a study group later that semester and it has been an excitement ever since.
