Introduction:
In the body of this assignment I will inform you of what communication is and I will discuss:
• The different models of communication
• The importance of visual communication
• Good presentation skills
What is Communication?
Basic communication is “The process of transmitting information from one person to another.” There are two main types of communication, effective communication and complex communication. Effective Communication is “The process of sending a message in such a way that the message is received as close in meaning as possible to the message intended.” (Griffin, Ricky W.1987) Complex communication is “The process by which ideas, information, opinions, attitudes and feelings are conveyed from one person to another.’’

It was more complex than Shannon and Weaver’s but it still took their linear process as its skeleton. The main advantages over their model are: it related the message to the ‘reality’ that it is ‘about’ and enables us to approach the questions of perception and meaning, and it sees the communication process as consisting of two alternating dimensions – the perceptual or receptive, and the communicating and control dimension. This dimension also contains the concept of access to the media and channels of communication. (Fiske, John 2010)
Lasswell’s model (1948) model is specifically one of mass communication. Lasswell argues that to understand the process of mass communication we need to study each stage in his model: Who, says what, in which channel, to whom, with what effect. His model is a verbal version of Shannon and Weaver’s original model. Most mass-communication research has implicitly followed this model. (Fiske, John 2010)
Newcomb’s Model (1953) is not linear. It is one that introduces us to a different shape. It is triangular. Its main significance is that it is the first model to introduce the role of communication in a society relationship. Its role is to maintain equilibrium within the social system. The way this model works is simple, A and B are communicator and receiver and X is their social environment. The ABX is a system. If A changes, B and X will

We are all passionate about something, however the big question is how prepared are you to let your passion show. It is important to let the audience know you have an interest in the topic you are presenting. Audience love to see passion from their hosts, have expression in your voice and look the audience in the eyes. Passion is hard to fake but if you write material that you feel passionate about, your feelings will follow when you are presenting. If you are able to show the audience that you are unfazed by such events, you will win their hearts. A presenter who is able to rescue a situation like when the electrics fail, rather than stomping off the stage will make friends and influence people. If you are able to make a joke in response to something that has just happened in the room, this will also have the same effect on the audience. It is also good to end the presentation with a joke as it is good to end on a good note and it will be memorable for the audience. To be professional you need to turn up on time, smartly dressed, look alert, confident and have all the material you need for your presentation. It is important to stick to your specialist subject area and you will look and sound confident. If you are talking about a topic you have limited knowledge on, just deliver what you know, don’t start trying to bulk the content with ‘false expertise’ as it will show clearly less is more.
The objectivity of your message applies many accurate angles of a good speaker, such as control, developing their public speaking skills, responsibility to
Giving a speech whether being for the public or not, offers personal, professional, and public benefits for the individual. The individual might find it easier to obtain a profession, build better relationships amongst peers, or even propel social movements by carefully constructing and delivering a well thought out speech. A speech needs to be excellent in order to do such things; it needs to have a clear concise thesis, a preview statement, a great organizational pattern, supporting material, memory, delivery and good representation of oneself. Thus, during the process of constructing and delivering a speech, one must have those aspects. This will ensure the speaker will deliver a powerful and moving speech.
Attention First and foremost, for deliver the speech speaker need to gain the attention of the audience since if we do not have their attention we can not persuade the audience ,speaker can grabs the audience’s attention and orients them to the issue use a humorous or dramatic story, a question, a quotation, a startling statement, etc. For example, in a speech designed to get the audience to concerning about the obesity from unhealthy food ,Jamie Oliver open the speech by using a dramatic opening “Sadly, in the next 18 minutes when I do our chat, four Americans that are alive will be dead from the food that they eat.” Jamie grabs the audience attention by questioning how in short time four people can die from the food they eat. 2.
Audience analysis changes as you present done it well then they would support your speech, but done it poorly, then they would become more hostile or distant. Accommodations are made to prevent chaos, especially in presentation or working condition. Multi-vocal society is like communities that would accept the offer, but still consider if it is worth the price, same goes for presentations. Presenting is like learning how to ride a bike, do it the right way, it would be easy, but do it wrong, and you are on one hell of a
These messages enclose information, and the senders of these messages intend particular meanings to reach the receiver of the message, who will then attribute a meaning to the message. The intended meaning may be varying from the meaning attribute to the message by the receiver. This is not only due to the words was used but also by the non-verbal messages that are also sent (Fielding, 1995). Heath (1997) stated that communication occurs in various ways and at diverse levels of awareness. Barber (1993, cited in Heath, 1997) states that communication is that sharing understandings and involves openness to the enquiry of another person, having attention, perception, receptivity and empathy towards that person.
Prescribed question: How and why is a social group represented in a particular way? Text: pilot of the TV Show “Shameless” (US) Part 2: language and mass communication: the potential for educational and ideological influence of a media, the power of a media to deliver a message, to express an opinion.
For this task I am going to discuss theories of communication which will be formatted in a booklet. I will also explain Argyle’s communication cycle and Tuckman’s group interaction. Argyles communication cycle When communicating with one another people must come to terms by trying to have an understanding of what the other person is trying to say. Communication is a circular process in which each person must have an understanding of one another’s viewpoint, they must also make sure that they are being understood.
I presented a book report in front of my English 3 class and educated the audience about Robert Penn Warren's life and career as a writer, as well give my opinion on the book All the King's Men: one of Warrens most popular. I spoke clearly, used my hands, and gave my facts about the author and book. I learned how calm down and talk in front of the class with confidence. I used creative thinking by presenting with my hands and using body language. My power point was appealing to the eye and was detailed with facts.
Communication is the process of transferring of information. Viswanathan (2010) says communication can take many forms of verbal and non-verbal methods which may include speaking, writing, gestures, expressions, listening and body language to name a few. All of these things should be taken into consideration to ensure an effective means of sending and receiving information. How and what information is sent may not be received in the same manner intended.
You can also learn from others mistakes and draw conclusions from those. Once you have made connections the aducine can either reject it or accept it, you're voicing your own opinion and not some else's. Though at times you may feel very passionate about the subject to the point you use a tone that is harsh, If in the right situation it can be acceptable but if you're prestinsing you want the audience to take you seriously. When you're expressing your opinion being confident helps express the importance of your topic. Using the right tone can make a big difference in how you impact the audience, Having an understanding of the advice can help you determine the tone you need to use.
Being confident shows your audience you are comfortable talking about your topic and that you are well informed on what you are specking of. Another thing that I can improve on is relaxing, for example, to not be so nervous. If I can think two steps ahead before I speak it would prepare me for what I am about to say which will allow my words to flow out smoothly and correctly. I plan on improving these skills by practicing more speeches in front of people and doing some relaxation exercises before my speech. I believe by implementing more speeches and doing some of the exercises, it will have me more relaxed, keep my mind focused and boost up my confidence so that I may present my speech flawlessly for an A plus grade.
Rationale Written task: Britt Wesseling I have chosen a ted talk as my text type, because I think this is a great opportunity to advice people on how to be a great public speaker. The ted talk shows several techniques on how you can be a good public speaker. Being a good public speaker is having the ability to persuade and influence your audience in order to send your message. Great leaders are one of the best examples, because their goal is of course to inspire and activate the listeners.
M.W. Cummin describes the word communication “process of conveying message (fact, ideas, attitudes and opinions) from one person to another so that they are understood”. [1] Communication in business: For businesses to be successful it is very important that communication must be effective. Effective communication
As students, presentations are something that is required in most classes yet, students do not see themselves as public speakers. Throughout high school and now in college, I have had to present material in 80 percent of the classes that I have taken. Presenting was, and still is something that I struggle with no matter how big or how small the group is that I am presenting to. I knew that Public Speaking was a required class for me so, rather than putting it off, I decided to go ahead and get it out of the was as soon as possible. Speaking in front of people is out of my comfort zone.
CHAPTER TWO LITERATURE REVIEW AND THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK 2.1 INTRODUCTION: Newspaper firms have started to search for online delivery channels so as to retain the young readers. As a result, they have transferred a considerable amount of their delivery channels from print to online format. Most of the media firms have started to implement a 360-degree strategy that integrates content decisions “shaped by the potential to generate consumer value and returns through multiple platforms of expression of that content via a number of distribution outlets” (Doyle, 2010).
