Why Should Start Later In The Morning? 43% of U.S schools public high schools start before 8:00 a.m.(Mckibben).Studies over the years have shown that teenagers need 9.25 hours of sleep every night to be fully alert the next day.The lack of sleep from puberty change leaves student sleepy during the school day which can affect their academic performance(Mckibben).Every 2 in 3 high school students get less than 7 hours of sleep.33% of teenagers report falling asleep in school(Mckibben).School should start later in the morning for the following reasons: it gets student prepared and organized before school starts, kids wouldn’t skip breakfast, it raises standardized test scores, and it will cause concentration levels to increase.
